Republican Showdown at the local Wal-Mart!
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 03:39 PM by Eternal_Vigilance
I was going down to my local Wal-Mart to pick up some stuff for my dorm, when I move in a week. As I was walking in, I saw that a booth was set up outside to help register Republicans. I decided to have some fun with the lady manning the stand. *wink*

As I walked by her, she asked me if I was old enough to vote. I told her I just turned 18 and was planning to vote. I also told her I was a Republican. She smiled and encouraged me to register to vote. I told her that I was already registered, but that I was planning to vote for John Kerry. The moment I said that, she looked as if she had seen the face of the Devil! It was HILARIOUS!

I went on to explain that I wanted American to move forward and that George W. Bush was the most destructive president we have seen in our nation's history. I listed off Iraq, terror, jobs, the economy, and his far-right agenda as the main reasons why Bush doesn't deserve a second term. As I went into the store, I told her that George Bush is NO Ronald Reagan and that REAL Republicans vote for John Kerry.

Her reaction was a mix of complete and utter surprise and disgust at the same time. I wish I could have take a picture of her expression, it was such a Kodak moment. When I left the store again, I passed by her booth again and shouted "Vote John Kerry" to the people registering there. I only wish that until Election Day, I will meet more people like her!

2. How do you know they were only registering Republicans?
Did they actually have a sign saying so?

If so, that is against the law. If they are deputy voter registrars doing this, they cannot legally refuse to register Democrats as well. At least that's the way it is here in Texas.

If this woman was doing this, she needs to be reported to your local county elections board.

Normally, I would grump at you for shopping at wal-Mart, but in this case, I'm glad you made a Republican short-circuit, even if only for a moment.
