What's your favorite beer?
I love Shakespeare Stout from Rogue Brewery. Probably the best beer I've ever had. And I've had a few beers in my life...

How people actually enjoy the stuff, I'll never know.

But if you like it, drink away.

suggestions. I have to be craving beer if I'm going to drink it. Most often as it is, I get a craving for Sierra Nevada pale ale.

You should try coming to a beer festival some time. It's a good way to spend a lazy day or a night out.

It's a Russian beer brewed in St. Petersburg. It is responsible for basically everything I did while living there. My favorite was No. 5.

58. Too Many from Wisconsin...New GLarus and Capital breweries
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 03:35 PM by LeftHander
I usually buy any the local regionals becuase they are sooo fresh.

New Glarus - Spotted Cow destroys all other beers in a bar for tap sales..everybody likes it...once you have it it is hard to stop having it.

New Glarus and Capital only US breweries to make top 10 in top international competitions. These two are The Best Breweries in the US...and they are 50 miles apart.

Spotted Cow, Fat Squirrel, Solstice, Naked from New Glarus brewing company and Fest, Wisconsin Amber, Maibock, Oktoberfest from Capital
Fuel Coffee Stout from Lakefront, Louie's Demise from Milwaukee Ale House is excellent as well...now available at the local liquor store...and Lienenkugel's Berry Wiess and Creamy Dark, Black Bavarian from SPrecher is yummy...rare to find on tap. 16 oz. bottles only.

the run down on the best of Wisconsin...

http://www.capital-brewery.com
http://www.newglarusbrewing.com
http://www.sprecherbrewery.com
http://www.ale-house.com/beer.php
http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/meetbeer.asp

Oh the joys of living in Wisconsin...best beer....still

Black Earth Porter from The Great Dane in madision...

Lienie's Creamy Dark

Lienie's Berry Wiess

Out of state favs include:

Goose Island - Honker Ale from Chicago
Summit Ale from Minnesota

Imports:

Guiness...is always liked
Bass, Corona

Most hated Beers:

Pabst Blue Ribbon and Budwieser....YUK!!!!

If you come to SE Wisconsin to taste the beer here is where to go:

Madison: UW Union Terrace, get a day pass and buy big cups of New Glarus and Capital brewery beers and sit in the sun overlooking Lake Mendota. Head to The Great Dane for a Black Earth Porter...then catch a band at Capital Brewery's Beer garden in the summer and early fall...

Milwuakee - Milwaukee Ale House, Onopa's, The Nomad all have great selections...have fine WI cheese plate at the Tocedero and sample the custom Wiess beer crafted by Lakefront for them......mmmmmmmm

63. Stegmaeier! From Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania
Stegmaeier is the most foul beer I have ever had. But I love it because it reminds me of when I was a poor young college student.
If you look carefully you can almost see bits of anthracite coal at the bottom of each bottle.
Stegmaeier is ambrosia for all TRULY impoverished young students in Pennsylvania. (Fake impoverished students, the ones who PRETEND to be poor, know nothing of this.) May it live and brew forever! :-)

64. Guinness Stout is the ultimate...
But Houston's own St Arnold's brewery has some pretty good options. And their beers are available all over the city--hardly elitist. "Elissa IPA" is a current seasonal offering. Some of the proceeds from sales of this lovely, bitter, hoppy India Pale Ale go to upkeep of the the Elissa, Galveston's tall ship.

Shiner has some good regional beers--the little Spoetzl Brewery was in business before the word "microbrew" was invented. And Mexican beers can be excellent--not Corona, though.
