I quit smoking! Ask me anything!
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 06:15 AM by LiberalVoice
Well it's been four days! Yesterday was rough. It sorta blew my mind. I was extremely irritable and yet I didn't feel like I wanted a cigarette. While I was at work I was throwing crates around. I was borderline enraged and I didn't know why. Eery feeling! Super creepy!

Wish me luck!

btw, I'm only quitting cigarettes, not pot. Although I haven't had a J in about 3 weeks. Too broke to spend the 50 bucks on an eigth. lol

1. Good for you!
I've been thinking about quitting myself. I like to smoke, but it's getting so damn expensive.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I hear a glass of milk helps with the cravings, don't know why though.

6. Not to mention...
Classes started on the 6th. My mom opened up a new shop that I have to work everyday in and the fact that my step-dad is being a HUGE asshole!

lol...It's really weird. I woke up four mornings ao and only had one cigarette left. I turned to my mother who is also a smoker and said, "This is my last cigarette." She thought I was telling here I needed another pack. I said, "No I mean this is my last cigarette ever. I'm quitting."

To be honest I'm just tired of feeling like shit all the time. I can't believe the shit that is happening with my mood as I withdraw. You want real proof of how addicitve cigs are? Quit. you'll be amazed!

3. Keep going! Don't stop!
I have a pal who would always falter after a few weeks. but eventually he kicked it. Its been 6 months since he smoked.
Me... I've been trying off and on.. but my record so far has been 8 days.... and that was only coz my parents had paid a visit (in India its rude to smoke in front of your elders).
Well, good luck to you and even if you do falter, try again after a few weeks. Cigs are the worst of all addictive things. I curse myself for ever picking up this shitty piece of stick!

9. Honestly
The hard part hasn't been the cravings. It's been the habit. When you think about it smoking takes p alot of time during your day. I smoked a lil more then a pack a day. 5 minutes a cigarette times 20 cigs is an hour an 40 minutes that I keep my hands occupied a day. Now I have so much extra time and nothing to do with it.

My mom thinks I should let her teach me to Croche(Sp?)

10. Here's another trick-
download a list of benefits of quitting cigs, print it out, stick one copy in your cubicle and keep one in your pocket. when you feel like a smoke, whip it out and read it. apparently, it works....

5. I suck nicotine tabs
especially while in the pub. I continually knock them back - makes a huge difference.

Also bought myself SCUBA lessons after 3 months (that was when I feel I saved £250 from not smoking).:)

12. Yup. Cold Turkey
I dunno how either. I just decided I was tired of smoking and spending so much friggin money on cigarettes. And it's only getting worse. I could use it for much better purposes. Like pot! lol :P

Like I said before I haven't had very many cravings for a cigarette so much as I wanted something to keep me occupied.

14. Keep up the good work - go to places that don't allow
smoking. Don't drink alcohol or smoke pot for a while (it will lower your ability to fight the cravings/habit). Do the math on how much cigarettes cost. Everyday will be a little easier. Do it for your loved ones. You can do this. NO ONE loved to smoke more than I did - NO ONE. I've been smoke free for 3 1/2 years now and I can't believe it. If I can do it, anyone can - trust me, I'm a wimp.

Also, you will have dreams where in the dream you are smoking. It's a bit freaky.

15. Best Of Luck To You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used the step-down patches and that really helped with the cravings. It was one of the BEST decisions I've ever made. Stick with it!!!

16. wellbutrin has helped me
just started it a few weeks ago (switched from effexor) and it is amazing how much my cravings have been reduced, sometimes it is more the habit that drives me rather than the nic fix, but when I light up I feel icky after a couple drags and get annoyed that my nice little relaxing routine isn't working anymore..so I'm trying to find other little routine escapes, such as simply taking deep breaths, and concentrating on each one, I realized that inhaling and exhaling are like a meditative exercise for me..or maybe switch to American Spirits, which don't contain all those nasty additives as or more addictive and harmful as nicotine, or an herbal/no nicotine cig to keep the habit for awhile but wean off the nicotine, and other chemicals. Seriously, I feel so much betteer in so many ways, and if you're concerned about gaining weight, wellbutrin manages to supress appetite, too..
