Favorite 8-bit original nintendo games?
I've finally acquired a NES, and I'm planning on building a sizeable collection of classic games (buying a few each month for cheap off ebay)

I've got mario/duckhunt and I've just placed an order for Dr. Mario. What other games should I get?

4. The Legend of Zelda and Metroid.
Nintendo's still pimping those franchises for all their worth.

8. They're still pimping them because they're stil amazingly good!
The new Metroid and Zelda games are the best games on GameCube.

12. Yeah, but can't they do something new?
Seems to be that there's a real lack of originality with Nintendo.

13. they have lots of original stuff
in fact, they're one of the companies that's an innovator when it comes to new games/technology

as prime examples, I'd pick pikmin and the nintendo DS

that said, if you own the Bond license, and you're going to make a spy movie...

Animal Crossing
Pikmin
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

And those are just three I can think of off the top of my head. Sorry, that doesn't wash.

21. I agree with you there.
Wind Waker had too much sailing, which was cool at first but by the end of the game. The dungeons were awesome, though.

as I recall, the zelda forumla goes 3 minor dungeons, then 5 major ones

still, it was a good game. I like the cell shading (expecially the character expressions)

32. It's a moot point once you learn the one song
 I loved the sailing. I would always mute the TV and play "I'm saiiiiiiiiiling awaaaaaaaaaaay!" whenever I went someplace. :P

Of course, I'm also the only person on planet Earth that not only loved the Gummi Ship in Kingdom Hearts, but sat for hours designing ships, so I guess I'm just weird like that.

41. if the song could warp to ANY spot, yes
but even with the song you still end up often having to sail 1-3 spaces.

5. Was Mike Tyson's "Punch Out!" NES or SNES?
I LOVED that game.

Also "Bases Loaded." Cromulent video baseball game, complete with beanballs and brawls. For some reason, though, I'm thinking these were both SNES. I dunno.

"Game Stop"s (store name) or game resale shops - a lot of these places have old stuff (including the Hollywood Video near my workplace, rented out space to a game seller).

None of their other games really did it for me, though the Simpsons ones came close...

Nothing beats Yar's Revenge though (atari 2600) or the Shadow of the Beast series (Amiga)

37. Ninja Gaiden
Fuck the X-Box version. :P I also second, third or whatever all the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario 3 recs. Super Mario 2 sucks (it's actually a Japanese game called Doki Doki Panic that they just stuck Mario characters in). It's only worth playing for the history lesson.

You GOTTA get Bubble Bobble. It's a totally addictive game, and the damn cartridge is indestructible--everyone I know with an NES since childhood, self included, says it's the only original NES cart they have that still works.

Final Fantasy. Though it hasn't aged terribly well, it's still a damn fun game, and worth playing just for the history lesson. However if you have a GBA, you may want to hold off and pick up Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls when it comes out in November. It's a cart with Final Fantasy 1 & 2 with upgraded graphics and sound, spiffed up gameplay, and extra dungeons.

River City Ransom. And don't forget the cheesy goodness of Bad Dudes.

Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?! :D

It is a sin not to buy Zelda if you have an NES!

Oh, and try half.com for games. it's a branch of E-bay but there's no bidding. There's really great prices.
