18. lovely
I had 4-5 hours today of political discssion. Beautiful girls in my classes I couldnt be happier. Started out when we had some discussion on AWOL Bush in journalism which btw kicks ass and I now am considering minoring in it, then after chem I went to government, and aced a model citizenship test after debating english only supporters and nativists, then in political science we watched Bush and Micahel Petrouka's acceptance speeches, I hammered the right hard in discussion, then young dems, and I felt great seeing my comrades new and old.

Ive only had two classes and I'll post it. I dont actually have a position on the staff, being its only journalism 1.
Here's the way I look at shit though, I cant make it as a speechwriter, I'll love to write for the paper, like editorals about politics and the issues of the day or write about sports or be a comedy writer. I ran in to one of the teachers who inspired me to become a fan of writing near the library the other day, it was great to see him, he was like a father figure for me, because he reminded me a lot of my dad, they both were liberal pseudo hippies who went down to the mexico area in teh 60's.

30. ehh I am not the ideal role model for your guys kids heh
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 11:25 PM by JohnKleeb
Well, your thirteen year old needs to first read an excellent book about a subject he'll enjoy, and get a great english teacher who doesnt focus on grammar, as english has gone on for me as Ive grown older, Ive seen less focus on grammar and more on lit, and I love lit. You have to have him read what he wants to read, reading is great if you enjoy waht youre reading. I was blessed in 8th grade to have a pretty good english teacher who really humanized things and from then on, I had teachers like that, I am not sure what my teacher this year will be like but shes clearly not a bore like my teacher was when I was 12 and around your son's age. I am a terrible role model though heh, never been on the honor roll, not going to a four year school out of HS, I am being hard on myself I know but the sciences and maths brought me down along with bad elective decisions. Another thing is, I sleep in class. I am not a good role model but I am hard on myself a little I guess but in a way I have in a way really impressed some people with my history-gov knowledge, just today I aced a model citizenship test after arguing for tolerance of immigrants, and I impressed people which was cool.

He did bring it up after I grounded him from his playstation 2 though. Also from watching movies and sleeping at my house. He has to sleep at his grandpas house until he brings his average up to passing? It's at a 69 now, go figure! Just in 2 days!!!

32. 17%? do I hear you right
I remember when I was a freshman and I was in a english class with a no late homework policy, it intially screwed me up, I saw my F on my first interim and I told myself, I am gonna bring that up, and I did to a C, if I only had gotten to a better start, I would have been on the honor roll, and would have had some nice mo. Its not so bad though. Ive had struggles in some electives, language, math, and science, specifically chemistry. Does your son get along with his english teacher? conflict between me and my chem teacher last year led to a lot of problems.

34. I hoope so he is ther early every morning now for tutoring.
Another part of his groundation. He messed up and tried to lie to me and tell me he didn't understand the material. Now he is telling the truth about just not wanting to do it. So I told him he still had to go to the tutoring until his grades are up. Now we also have to take him for his math grade being a 57 average. He is not a happy camper.

Hope he can get it together, its not too late, my brother who is 14 had a rough start last year and was helped by the same woman who saved me from going ot summer school in 7th grade for math, I just barely passed that class, and he improved his grades signifancy when he went in to basic skills which means he has a learning disablity, I also have one, maybe your son does, being LD doesnt mean youre stupid but it can mean things are harder.

He is a very bright student. Used to make A's and B's all year. Work just got harder and he doesn't want to try that hard. I figure if I take his games away he will start to try harder just so he can play again.

37. oh lazyness
I am not a parent but I would just limit his gaming because if he can't game, then he'll be complaining to you all the time, if he has some, he may have an intiative, or maybe only let him play when hes done with his work. I dont know, I am not a parent, but I think a compromise may work.

40. Oh sorry
I wake up at 6:15 in the morning and classes start at 7:20. I stay up late though but if I do everything right, I am not too tired, Sorry I didnt know that heh. I dont know what he may be thinking, but I think he may be thinking perhaps, this doesnt matter because its not gonna be on my transcript for college and etc, I'd rather be playing PS2, etc, like last year I'd get distracted and put stuff off, and it was really dumb. Its best in my opinion to get started on stuff early, I also like to use my lunch period to get homework done because the less time I have to HWK is the more time I have to do what I want.

He only thinks about playing the ps2! That is why he is grounded from it. (good one I think)

Let them know how you feel and it will get even better. They like it when they know they can reach the students on a personal level. When they know they are accomplishing something they try even harder. Another lesson I learned through the years.
