5. Yeah, they're pretty good,
but I didn't know them to be very political untill they came out with that CD, but then again I wasn't known to buy their CD's untill they came out with that one.

6. Yeah, I like them, but they're pretty old.
Atleast I think they are. Bulls on Parade is a classic.

Thanks for reminding me about them, they were lost in my library of music.

8. Arnt they all? (seriously)
The Clash (their first album..the "Green Album") very political.

Gang of Four. pretty heavy on the political angle. Maybe not purist punk.

The English Beat.. Ska, not punk, but very political.

Some early Depeche Mode.

alot of the early 80s bands had alot of political content in their stuff. Not just punk.

10. The Minutemen!!!!
Amazing, eclectic political punk/jazz/all-over the map music played by absolute virtuosos. Existed from 1979-1985. Best album: "Double Nickels on the Dime." D. Boon: possibly the greatest lyricist ever.

Also, Gang of Four, 4 Skins, Rudimentary Peni, Pop Group, hundreds of others i can't think of right now.

21. Yes, definitely
Though the Minutemen lost D. Boon, became fIREHOSE, got artier (though just as political).

Now Mike Watt has a band the "SecondMen"

I know Exene of X has done some pro-choice stuff, but wouldn't call her political otherwise.

Old style band the Dils had a lot of left wing energy. The Kinman brothers founded Rank and File, the best of the Cowpunk bands around.

System of a Down? Not sure if I'd call them punk. Definitely have a political edge.

The whole riot grrls things had a lot of politics. Bikini Kill, and now Sleater Kinney. Check out Kill Rock Stars records in Olympia.

The (International) Noise Conspiracy?

Look at Alternative Tentacle's Web site - that's Jello Biafra's label. They also sell a lot of Noam Chomsky.

Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 12:27 AM by phishhead
Bad Religion
NOFX
Dead Kennedys
Born Against
Bad Brains

Oh and check out Boy Sets Fire! They aren't really punk though. More of a hardcore/emo sound. BSF is the best political band that I know of right know. The song "Release the Dogs" is the best 9/11 related song that any band has put out, IMO.

Might be hard to find.

Blanks 77
Angelic Upstarts
Dissent (from South Dakota late 80's)
Stiff Little Fingers (can get most of their stuff through their website www.slf.com)
DOA
False Prophets
Reagan Youth
Negative Trend
Toxic Reasons
Crucifucks
Dils
Discharge(early stuff like Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing, they went metal later and sucked)

Tons more but I'll leave it at that for now.

27. Rage Against The Machine... not exactly punk, but...
... I think they're what you're looking for.

Everytime I listen to their music, I think to myself, "This is the soundtrack to the revolution!!!" Something about Rage just makes me want to march and protest and stir shit up, something fierce.

"I am the Nina, the Pinta, the Santa Maria
The noose, and the rapist
The fields overseer
The Agent of Orange
The Priest of Hiroshima
The cost of my desire?
Sleep now in the fire!"

- Jennifer, encouraging all to rock out to some Rage this evening!

28. Feedrz
Just found out they are back together and releasing new stuff.
Be aware though some of their stuff can be very offensive. If your religious at all you probably don't want to listen to Jesus.

Feedrz Steal Music

from the song 1984

Living in a world where life's just a game
A game you've already lost
You go to school for twelve years where you learn just one thing
How not to mind being bossed
Oh you'll learn to follow orders when each day's just the same
And they all use the same voice
Just where you'll go to work for the next 50 years
That's your freedom of choice

You know you're 'well adjusted' when you don't seem to mind
That cops are always around
You're repeating useless gestures, that's no cause for alarm
Where there's no life to be found
Well it's time you started thinking inside your head
That you should stand up and fight
1984's been here for the last 40 years so
Destroy what bores you on sight

30. Damn spelled their name wrong twice
Just stopped by before going to bed and noticed it right away but for some reason didn't notice it when I first put it up. I blame it on George Tenet.

Oh well it's Feederz.

They have their own label with a bunch of political punk bands like themselves, worth checking out. www.anti-flag.com then go to A-F Records.
