Bardot fans: the Divine BB disc is mana
Watched about half the dic of tv music special clips last night. Even if you aren't a fan, I like seeing the cultural progression as it moved from 62-68. Video in better shape than I thought and 5.1 and DTS audio options.

2. Check out "La Verite" if you get a chance
This film was evidently shelved back when it was made. A new print was screened at the Dallas Film Festival a few months back. I do believe some of the scenes in that movie are sexier than anything else I've seen on celluloid. It's a very good film otherwise as well, though rather disturbing.

3. Hey flamingyouth and exJW
Thanks for reponding to my post, you two.

As far as the Divine BB disc goes, it features about 34 songs. Some rag-time jazz flavor to several, along w/ sexy chanteuse, flapper themed stuff, etc. But things take a turn w/ the 68 special. Lots omore experimental, it seems, in terms of camera and edits. Some hippie and Carnaby Street themed stuff as well. Groovy, but seeming to perhaps sevel degrees less guileless which, of course, is one of BB's central charms.

Have either one of you seen fairly deep into Bardot's catalogue? I'm kind of mid way, I suppose, owning And God, Plucking the Daisy, Naughty Girl, Come Dance w/ Me, Don Juan, Les Femmes and Please Not Now.

What else can you recommend? I suppose Heaven Fell That Night is next on my list from what I know, but am open to suggestions.

Oh yeah, and I also have Contempt and the Spirits of the Dead trilogy, (owned them before any of the others).

exJW: Can you fill me in on Le Verite, ? Off to google of course, but would love to hear your take on the movie's subject matter, Bardot's performance, etc.

Anyhow, if y'all get the time, get back to me on other titles, compare notes on any of the above, etc.

And flamingyouth: Is that Louise Brooks in your avatar? Is the investigation of female pop iconography one of your interests?

4. I saw La Verite years ago and remember loving it
She looks great in it; it is really a great film.

Actually, it's Colleen Moore in my avatar. She was one of the original flappers and had "the haircut" before Louise Brooks. :)

Yes, I would say that female pop iconography is definitely an interest of mine. I tend toward the more obscure - Colleen Moore, Anita Page, Martine Carol are some of my favorites. :hi:

5. Back from reading up....
Sounds great. Sounds very heavy in a "pop-culture examines self" kind of way *and* in terms of the murder, courtroom plot. Does the screening you saw, exJW, presage a DVD release, I wonder? And when you say you saw it "La Veite", fy, did you see it screened as well or on VHS?

And exJW, I believe you about the sexy on celluloid. The Criterion "And God Created Woman" is what started my wife and I down this whole path a couple of years ago.

But I also always have to insert that I truly do like BB as a comedic actress as well. There is something about her charm, timing, movement and physical presence--beyond the outright sexiness--that really makes the comedies work. Some subtle stuff even abounds, i.e. "Plucking the Daisy" and the confusion over the virginal/stripper dual identities she has, her knowing her boyfriend is attracted to both, etc.

Thanks again for the chat and movie tip. Off to swim.
