Anyone else slowly going bald?
I just looked in the mirror and i'd swear my hairline is slowly retreating! I'm in my thirties with no gray, but my hair is definitely getting thinner!

I might need a toupee in 5 to 10 years!

:nopity:

2. Shave it now.
Trust me. Shave it or cut it down with the #2 clippers. It looks much better that way when your hair starts to go. Other benefits:

Buy shampoo once a year, tops.
Hair is styled in 3 seconds or less.
Girls love it!!

8. Some ladies like a thinning pate as well
I've hit on several guys with thinning hair... not that I don't like bald, but I've never hit on a bald guy.

Don't worry too much about it... if it bothers you that much, shaving's a great option, but on the whole it's not too big of deal to most women, I don't think.

7. Yep, my oldest is only 7 and I'm pulling my hair out!
He's autistic, and his little brother wears me out as well, so it doesn't surprise me that I'm grey and seeing as much hair in the drain as on my head. Besides, women in my family have thinner hair around the temples.

9. Think Sean Connery. Think Patrick Stewart. Think Anthony Edwards.
Those dudes are all in the ladies' heartthrob column, and their lack of cranial turf isn't an issue.

I say this as one whose topsoil has been eroding for some time now.

I don't think your hair (or lack thereof) will detract from your good looks. :)

13. Obligatory song post...
I looked in the mirror today
My eyes just didn't seem so bright
I've lost a few more hairs
I think I'm going bald
I think I'm going bald!

Seems like only yesterday
We would sit and talk of dreams all night
Dreams of youth
And simple truths
Now we're so involved
So involved with life

Walk down vanity fair
Memory lane everywhere
Wall Street shuffles there
Dressed in flowing hair

The wire!

Once we loved the flowers
Now we ask the price of the land
Once we would take water
But now it must be wine
Now we've been
And now we've seen What price, peace of mind
Take a piece of my mind

My life is slipping away
I'm aging every day
But even when I'm grey
I'll still be grey my way

-Rush

15. You might be. No big deal though.
If you got a bald spot or receding hairline, its better to get your hair cut shorter than usual. Longer hair tends to make it a lot more noticeable. At least that's what you should do in 5-10 years anyway.

16. Couple of Points on Thinning Hair
First, if you want to know what your hairline will look like when you get older, look at your mother's brethren (if she has any). Hairline is inherited maternally.

Second, it is a scientific fact that men who go bald in front are great thinkers, and men who go bald in the back are great lovers...

... but men who go bald in front and back just THINK they are great lovers.

19. the maternal thing, not true
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 06:46 PM by newsguyatl
trust me, i've done the research.

the susceptibility of the hormone DHT (dihydro testosterone) comes from either side, father or mother.

DHT is what causes males to lose hair, by slowly "choking" the follicles to death.

it's slowly happening in the front for me. and i've always had the THICKEST hair of anyone. it's depressing indeed.

When it comes to hair or lack thereof. Damn It! ;(

(On edit, it's not a mater of DHT sensibility. If it was, the hair would fall all over. Pattern baldness is established by homeobox genes, which goes back to the egg).

27. no
the hairs in the back of the head are NOT susceptible to dht, that's why they never fall out. only the top, crown, and front. and even with these, depends on your genetics.

trust me, on this. i've been to 2 dermatologists, and 3 surgeons -- and i've read the literature.

the "comes from mom's side" is just a wive's tale.

while standing in the same place, move the mirror higher and tilt it toward you.

24. i used to always wear my hair really long
then i had the chemo thinger and i was losing it so bad i got what i dub the 'chemo cut', very short, with an eye toward 'bald chick chic' if it thinned more. well i was lucky, the cut stopped it and i just got aother 'chemo cut'-but not because i HAD to but because I LIKE IT! i had about a foot cut off on tuesday, and was going, "Why didn't i get this done in May?"

stay away from the dreaded 'combover', keep your hair short and you won't notice it so much
