Were the Kerry sisters booed at the MTV Music Awards?
I heard on the radio that they got booed at last night's MTV Video Music Awards? Anybody can confirm this? That would be a shame. I have more respect for the Kerry sisters than the "Girls Gone Wild" Bush twins.

1. a little, but then cheers drowned them out
There was a minor hesitant boo, but the crowd cheered them down. The Bush twins faired no better.

3. To be more specific.
The Kerry Daughters came on. There were claps and lite boos. Then in response to the boos people started chearing until the boos were neutralized. Then it was mostly light cheers and clapping, when the Bush twins came on, there was a little more clamor with some boos, but the audience had really decided by that point to just stick with the clapping and light cheering.

So it depends on the claim. Were they booed by a small number of people briefly, yes. Were they booed by the crowd, no.

2. I was wondering this myself.

I checked google news, but all I found was a story that pretty much copied from the one on drudge. Many other stories covered the Kerry daughters speech, but didn't mention any jeers.

5. I was just wondering.
It would be a shame if it really happened. Then again, they were in Miami. Not exactly a Democratic hot spot now is it?

8. sorry, I changed my post as you were answering
I think it is more likely that some people who think Kerry is the same as bush decided it would be cool to boo the daughters of both the "WAR" candidates.

Forgive me I am not in a very good mood today. If we end up with 4 more years of bush................

9. I share your feelings.
Frankly, Kerry was never my first or even third choice. I was a hardcore Dean supporter and I was just as angry and disappointed as you were when Kerry made his "surge" in the primaries and I am still questioning how that happened. The way I am looking at it, I may not agree with Kerry on some issues especially Iraq, but I get the feeling he is only doing this to play the center to get elected. If he has a conscience, a president Kerry will do the right thing and end this quest for chaos. If not, we are going to put his feet to the fire and support another Democrat or even a third party candidate in 2008. I am only supporting Kerry because I do not want another four years of Monkey Man.

Keep the faith!

6. There were definitely boos, and not just a few - it seemed like
a good portion of the audience. And that seems odd to me because you'd expect an audience at the MTV awards to be much more friendly to democrats and the Kerry campaign, you definitely wouldn't expect them to be for Bush.

I think its either that they wanted the show to go on, and sort of considered the Kerry sisters intruders, or they are even to left of where Kerry is. Maybe Kerry, for them (those that booed), isn't liberal enough. Thats the only thing I can figure.

7. I'm willing to guess ...
... that a few of them were Duh supporters, but even more of them were people who are just sick of the pervasiveness of the political discussion/argument/ads/pundits/candidates altogether.

10. To be fair....it wasn't a good venue to start preaching about the vote....
...the kids were there to listen to music and watch the stars.....now maybe if his daughters had both worn see through dresses?

11. You're right, but
I guarantee the boos weren't coming from the artists. They were coming from the ignorant kids in the crowd. We all know where the overwhelming majority of artists stand.

12. Those "Ignorant Kids"...
...are most likely to get ONE HELL of an education if Bush is re-elected.

13. That's already happening in my opinion.
That no-child left behind bill (or should be Leave a child behind) is a joke and it has actually hurt education than helped it.

18. They'll get free trips to exciting parts of the world!
Mostly sandy places, unlike the steamy jungles kids of my own generation toured.

19. You got that right!
And that, of course, wasn't a blanket statement. I don't think either sets of daughters deserved to get booed in that setting. They weren't even really pushing a candidate, they were just encouraging these kids to get involved.

Let's see who they boo when we invade Iran next year if bush is reselected.

14. It Was the Bush Twins Who Were Actually Boo'd
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 11:11 AM by bushisanidiot
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/30/candidates.daughters/index.html

"The Kerry daughters were at the event at the American Airlines Arena; the Bush daughters appeared in a pre-recorded video.

"My sister and I are thrilled to be here tonight with you all in Florida," said Vanessa Kerry, "and to get this chance to suggest that you get involved in this election and vote -- and hopefully that you vote for our father."

MTV cameras showed some audience members apparently giving the women a standing ovation, but the mixture of boos and cheers continued.

<snip>

The Kerry daughters then turned around to watch, along with the MTV audience, the video of the Bush daughters.

<snip>

MTV's broadcast turned down sounds of the audience during the playing of the video, but the vocal audience could still be heard.

The boos seemed to die down and cheers took their place toward the end of the segment, when the Kerry daughters took back the floor and encouraged people to support victims of Hurricane Charley, which devastated portions of Florida earlier this month."

17. The Bush twins were introduced first, and that's when the booing began...
Of course, in Miami, anything's possible!

15. Yes, according to our local cable news program.
repeated over and over and over and over in the news loop of the day-

They are running a very short clip showing the Kerry daughters on stage receiving applause and boos - and commenting on the boos over and over and over and over.
-----

Got so fed up, I sent an e-mail:

I've been watching your channel this morning and as the MTV award 'news' story was played and replayed, my anger grew until I had to write and express it.

You are reporting on the Kerry daughters' appearance receiving applause and boos from the audience - over and over - and the snide tone taken by the reporter about the boos borders on gloating.

I can live with that. Everyone has their opinion on this crucial election and should have the right to express it. But, when it's presented as news - and without any balance whatsoever, it really raises my hackles.

Are you aware that the Bush twins were broadcast to the event on a big screen to make their 'get out the vote' pitch as well? How was their appearance received by the audience? Adoration and accolades? Did they receive any boos from the crowd? I don't know. I didn't watch the program. Nobody else will know either if they are depending on your station, because it's just not being covered. The only thing your viewers will be aware of is that the Kerry daughters made an appearance and received boos along with applause - with the reporter commenting on and emphasising the boos.

See what I'm saying? I just don't think it's right to bring the Kerry daughters up for ridicule and totally ignore that the Bush daughters were a part of this event as well. Both candidate's children are participating in their father's campaigns, so either both should receive coverage by the same standards and attention, or neither should.

Thanks for your time,
-----

16. The crowd was very rude to EVERYONE last night...
Not just the kerry girls. And why did drudge have a picture of the Kerry daughters getting booed and he didn't even MENTION the fact that the Bush twins were getting booed even louder than the Kerrys? I hate that little bastard.
