Poll question: Best R.E.M. Album-- The IRS Years
I think they're all excellent, but Murmur & Reckoning hold a special place in my heart. This has been a Lifes Rich Pageant kind of year, though.

1. It's hard for me to pick just one
I love them all. But I was just listening to Murmur today, as it seemed appropriate. I saw them on that tour, and also on the Fables of the Reconstruction tour, where my friend and I actually got to meet them, much to our high-school delight! :D

2. I had that shirt with the monkey and parrot on the bike

forever.

"we are having a heavenly time"

I've been a fan for 20+ years, myself.
I'm seeing them at the greek theater in Berkeley in October. Can't wait.

3. Peter Buck has lived in Seattle for a long time
So I see him around town a lot. He's a very cool guy.

Enjoy the show!

15. True, but I ran into him here (Athens, GA) last night...
and almost didn't recognize him. He looked like a history teacher. Short salt-and-pepper hair brushed back, glasses,...

Best IRS album? Murmur (but it's still no Automatic For The People)

6. Tough, isn't it...

I went with Murmur, but I think everything they've done has something to recommend it; add to that the fact that they've never done the same thing twice...

BTW, have you heard the new single? I think it's great.

5. I you answered "Who?"
Murmur is an excellent place to start. I think Rolling Stone named it one of the top 50 Rock Albums of the 20th Century, or something.

7. Fables.
"Cant Get There from Here" is my favorite R.E.M. song.

10. I've been listening to 'Life's Rich Pageant' lately so it got my vote.
Very timely, imho.

A little miffed that they're skipping Texas on the next tour, so a road trip to Orlando (Vote for Change tour) in October got added to my things to do list. I've never missed an r.e.m. tour even if it meant using a vacation or sick day from work. Haven't seen Springsteen since his solo tour supporting 'GoTJ' so I am jazzed!

13. Murmur, but damn I like Monster too...
...despite it being an "atypical" REM recording. What's the frequency, Kenneth?

14. We'll get to the Warner Bros years soon enough...

Only 10 choices max on the polls.

Actually Monster is one of my least faves, but some people love it. I just think it came out at a funky time in my life... I liked Reveal more than any album since AFTP. I like that rich, languid sound.
