It's loud and you get the last word in

6. Yep. They want to get begged to stay.
If I ever left, I'd just tell everyone to kiss my big ol' ass, and storm out in a huff! I don't care how much they beg, I'd be outta here! :)

10. Yep, jukes.
Personally, if I decided to stop DUing, I'd just stop. I can't see that happening, though. I don't think I've ever gotten actually angry at anything that was said here. I usually just say to myself "Well, that was dumb", and move on to another thread. I don't wanna fight with anybody.

But I came back. Since I wasn't banned, I guess you'll have to put up with me, whether you were pissed at me or not. :D

8. Dunno why, but the "Goodbye, cruel forum!" post seems common to
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 04:58 PM by daisygirl
every forum/message board/whatever I've spent much time at. At one forum I used to go to, there was one poster in particular who'd get offended by someone at least a couple of times a month and make a dramatic exit (and then come back a week later) - that's the person who got me calling it a "goodbye, cruel forum" post.

17. Usenet is even worse.
In fact, 'goodbye, cruel forum' posts in some of the newsgroups I frequented were the primary reason I stopped subbing and getting involved in Usenet. You can 'plonk' people who tick you off, like using the 'Ignore' button on DU, but you still end up downloading threads with posts from everybody else, variously saying 'don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you' to 'please don't go! I know you were only here two weeks, but you're the heart and soul of this group!'

Eventually, the drama wears you out. Here, I just ignore and avoid discussions I know generally wind up with somebody stalking me or posting the same argument over and over, like a stealthily programmed 'bot, and once in a while take a break.

Something else that helps is reading DU without logging in, once in a while. If you don't log in, you can't post -- sometimes, that's just as well!

11. Possibly a combination of all of the above.

I haven't seen an "I'm leaving!" thread in a long time but I guess I missed one, huh?

12. Haven't seen this lately...but in the "old days" it was folks who were
disappointed. Maybe their views were trashed in "flame wars" and they were naive about how these internet message boards work, or they just felt they had real differences with folks they encountered, here.
