I think I am going to vomit.
I have been talking to this girl online. We have really been getting along. It is nice talking to her. But, I broached politics with her and told her that I am marching in a parade for Kerry. Now she tells me that she is a Republican. Well, I have to go to bed soon anyway but she told me that she likes Bush. I ended the conversation amicably. Why? God Why? She still wants to talk to me. But I am not sure that I want to talk to her.

1. "WHY?! GOD WHY?!"
Is that how you ended it? Cause that'd be funny.

Does she like Bush, like the Southern charm, or like Bush, like the raping and pillaging?

9. Oh please.
Trying that with these people is like talking to a brick wall. Unless they want to throw out some talking point telling you that they are right. I have gotten to a point where they are beyond redemption, and beyond reason.

14. Why, God. why....
would you consider this person as a life mate? Why, God, why, would I want to do that sex act????

Get the picture.

Date within your class - which is much higher than this 'bushbots' is. And guess what, if you marry before 29, you have a higher likelihood of divorce than if you had married after 29.

Good luck, and keep the dimmers on until you are dyin' to be a daddy!

She has been talking more seriously about meeting up than I have. I do enjoy talking to her. She seems very down to earth. But, I have such disgust for Bush and the Republicans that it is getting hard.

26. SHE might be husband hunting... is she a fundie?... RUN AWAYYY!!!
Sorry, I was thinking in Monty Python mode.

She might be a very nice person that knows very little about politics. Maybe she figured you might be a Bush supporter (aren't there more male Bush supporters?) so therefore used a stock response?

Why don't you teach her how Democrates are better lovers?

15. Life's too short to want to "vomit" because a girl is...
part of 50% of the country. Christ. Get over it.

I went through a phase where I despised every one of them, etc. Fuck it. They're still people, and I have some liberal friends and some conservative friends. The conservative ones are no less friends than the liberals.

16. I'm sure many people develop relationships
who are opposites politically. I know a couple who were about as opposite as you could get when they met. One was a Libertarian and the other was a Socialist. Over the years they've both changed and both are now Democrats. You never know. It could be the start of something special.

17. This is good advice (imho, of course)
Find out WHY she 'loves' * . Ask her (w/o 'asking her' and putting her on the defensive WHY? Heck, if she's got a good enough rational you may want to support * yourself! - secretly :puke: at the thought). And then do the same with the 'republican' issue....cause what is today called 'the republican party' is definitely NOT the conservative and responsible one (the 'good' side of that party) in evidence today.

I would wager a bet that if you start really talking about deep seeded 'principals' that you agree on, you might be pretty close. Then don't worry about the 'name/party' dropping.

(I'm also guessing that she said what she did b/c she doesn't have any real 'clue', she's just parroting what the 'grown-ups' around her have said...help her to grow a mind!)

IMHO,
DustMolecule

P.S. Best of Luck!

18. Keep talking to her anyway.
I think that cutting off the dialog over that may be a little too harsh. Quite honestly, I think that we need more liberals and conservatives talking in order to help mend the destruction reaped by Bush.

Just kidding. There's more to life than politics. If you let it get in the way of amour, you're tripping.

To be sure, if you're making love to her and she starts murmuring things like, "We are turning the tide in Iraq," then get another girlfriend.

You should probably tell her the stuff you know about Bush and what he has (and hasn't) done these last four years.

I wouldn't give up on her quite yet.

24. I disagree that there is more to life than politics.
Politics is life. It dictates whether you will have edible food , medicine when you are sick, or clean air to breathe. If you can support the current regime, which is life threatening, you are not worth talking to. I know I will be flamed for this but I have never seen an example of it being different in recent times. The Bush regime is not politics as usual, and we cannot consider these people as amicably as we ordinarily would. They are a world threat as is their leader.I know I sound like a tinfoil hat, but I cannot find any rational explanation for anyone to vote for Bush and I have zero tolerance for those people who support him.

29. Only in the sense that the people who we elect make decisions that affect
those subsistence needs.Environmental policy effects much of our survival ability. Economic policy effects our fiscal ability to provide for ourselves. Anyone who jeopardizes those conditions I consider an enemy and I don't wish to socially interact with them as they are damaging my quality of life. Personally, my life was MUCH better four years ago! I want my country back and those who don't consider it high jacked don't share my values. I don't need to waste precious time on them. There is too much work we have to do to GOTV with people who can be convinced and aren't beyond hope. And you are right. I won't be voting for Bush. Now let me just tweak this tinfoil a bit more, I feel an incoming repug!

The only cure is a frontal lobotomy. Amazingly I have convinced two RW fundies to vote libertarian or not vote at all. Therefore, I'm not going to give up trying to convert wingers until after November 2nd.

Have you read the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2273474">PENTAGON SPY thread? There's hope yet saracat. It looks like a faction of the CIA is about to take down Bush&Co.

33. You have more patience than I ! I have dumped
a family member over his refusal to vote for ABBB. He Likes Bush and says nothing will convince him otherwise. The SBVF T are just as legitimate as Kerry and they also have freedom of speech, which Kerry is trying to stifle, blah blah, blah!Besides which, he just doesn't "like" Kerry. But keep up the good work. Not all are beyond hope. A GOP delegate just defected!I have not much hope that the Petegon Spy issue will stick as it is associated with Isreal and neither party will touch that hot potato,IMHO. But I am hoping that the voters will save the day. I know that many repugs are NOT voting for Twinkie and the polls aren't reflecting that yet.I have some hope.

31. Man! There have been some great responses
here, so far.

My two cents is to not let politics damage your relationship with any individual -- be it friend, lover, family member, or spouse.

There may, at some point, come a time when the political aspect is simply too heavy for the rest of the relationship. Then it's time to cut and run. For example, dating Eva Braun until you find out she's been schtupping Hitler. Then it's over, Mama. Sayo-freaking-nara.

After spending 14 years married to a Republican, my only comment is ......RUNNNNN!!!!!

Seriously, if its just an online thing at this point, my advice would be to cut your losses. Dont let it become a serious thing. Life is too short to spend the biggest part of it with someone who doesn't share your life view.
