I hate moving, does anyone else hate this task.......
My wife and i just bought a house and will be moving in a week. It is scary looking around and realizing that every item in our place, big and small, has to be picked up and moved. I'm scared.

1. It sucks more than anything else
I hate it.
After 26 years in the military, I don't ever want to move anywhere. Ever.
Again.

And I have to do it myself very soon.

The good news is my rent will be greatly reduced. I'm excited about that!!!!

5. We're Planning To Move In The Spring
But I already have 50% of our stuff packed up in boxes (mainly so I don't have to keep cleaning it all, etc...). I've moved a total of 13 times in my life already, and I actually like to move (always a new adventure). I must be part gypsy or something! Good luck and keep smiling! It'll be over before you know it.:)

6. It is the absolute worst thing
took weeks to move about ten years ago and I swear I will never do it again. Too much stuff and I don't want to sell my stuff. Too many books, etc. But I just can't throw things out. Anyway the cats like this house a lot.

7. I've been in the process of moving
It wasn't too bad. I had to buy a lot of new furniture and I had that delivered by the store. The only heavy lifting I had to do was the washer and dryer and the refridgerator and I had help with that.

12. I guess I'm in the minority - I love moving
I like everything about it, the new place, the fresh start, reorganizing furniture and my 'stuff', finding things I thought I lost. My back could do without the heavy lifting (I'm hiring movers next time), but everything else is fun.

But it still sucks to pack. I can't wait to get to the new place, but ughhh, having to set everything up again sucks.

14. I moved people for a living for 15 years. Ask me anything.
There are a lot of "shortcuts", so to speak, that can take some of the pain and frustration out of the process.
One shortcut not to take is this-- if you hire movers, hire a reputable company. They usually cost a little more, but it will pay off in spades in the end.
And remember-- if you're happy with the job the movers did, throw a tip to each of the guys on the crew-- $20 or more each. Don't give it to the company they work for, either. The guys will probably never see it.
Movers work their asses off, and don't make a lot of money.
Believe me, I've been there !!!
Good Luck. Enjoy your new homes !!!!!!!

15. Several years ago I did claims for a major national mover
I couldn't take reading some of the stuff I saw...these movers were throwing expensive furniture from the truck to the grass and breaking everything. Most national firms are good but when a team is having a bad day, they really have a bad day and the client pays with gouged walls, broken stuff, etc. I finally asked some of the other claims people what they did to move and they all said have your friends and family move you. MOST MOVES BY NATIONAL FIRMS, THOUGH, GO QUITE WELL.

18. Yes, hire reputable movers
If you're happy with a company, use them again and recommend them.

The last time I moved, I chose not to go with a company I'd used before and been happy with, simply because another company's ad attracted me. (Yes, you pervs, there was a handsome man's picture in the ad.) Well, I was very unhappy with this company. They didn't care for my furniture properly and I wound up with dents and scratches. They didn't have proper equipment and their truck's lift wouldn't operate because it was so cold that day. So they lifted my piano into their truck without it! This caused one of them to strain his back, so he wasn't there for the unpacking.

The ordeal with these people, plus my not being well prepared, made that move a nightmare. And although I'm not crazy about my current apartment, I am not eager to move again any time soon!

16. Majorly
I moved several times as a child. Each time, it seemed like a major upheaval in my life as well as being a lot of unpleasant work. My husband and I will move sometime within the next couple years. WE rent and want to own our own home. We also want to move before having children as our current place is small. Just thinking about it makes me nervous.

17. we have some annoying housing rules
that require students who stayed here over the summer to move somewhere for 10 days before the fall housing opens. So I have to move twice in 2 weeks! argh! I'm a total pack rat and I have a ton of furniture.

I can't wait until I can though, but that's a whole other situation. Moving is tough and a lot of work, so here's some moving hugs  for you and any other folks out there dealing with this this week.
