Anthony Hopkins to play Hemingway in Aussie film

Drunken Papa helps top up film coffers

When Sir Anthony Hopkins returns to Australia in October he will play a part vastly different from the doddery "efficiency expert" he portrayed when he last worked here in the 1992 parochial comedy Spotswood.

Hopkins will play literary lion Ernest Hemingway, with Meg Ryan in the role of his wife, Mary, in the $35 million drama, Papa. Shooting starts in Queensland in mid-October and is due to continue for about eight weeks.

The Australian-British co-production is set in Havana, the Cuban capital, in 1959 and tells the story of a young journalist who finds the drunken, gun-toting Hemingway amid the Cuban revolution.

this shd be a good 1 if they keep it close to historical. the aus film industry is much gutsier than hollywood.
