Officials: Man Puts Girlfriend In Furnace, Jumps In Himself
Family Says Couple Involved In Relationship For 10 Years

UPDATED: 1:35 PM EDT August 23, 2004

AKRON, Ohio -- Authorities said an Ohio man and a woman are dead after the man reportedly put the woman into an industrial furnace and then got in himself.

Though authorities thought the couple was married, the woman's family said the paIr was not married.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and Akron police are investigating the deaths of 26-year-old Karla Ramos and 36-year-old Jose Webster.

The incident happened at the Summit Heat Treating Plant in Akron, where Webster worked-- reportedly in front of the couple's four children.

5. They don't shut the furnaces off...
it takes too long to reheat them and it can damage the furnace. They're always on.
