I paid for a Senior Citizens Olive Oil today
A little elderly Italian gentleman was in line ahead of me at the grocery store and he went to use a food stamp card and his olive oil was rejected so I paid for it.

I don't feel like a hero or a do gooder either. I am wondering why someone is not allowed Olive Oil on food stamps. Has it always been that way or are they limiting seniors on what they can and can't buy. He was not over his limit either.

1. OO is probably considered a luxury item
sadly, despite all the health benefits. His food stamp card probably allows him regular cooking oil, like corn oil, but not OO.

You did a good thing. :toast: Good on ya! :-)

2. It May Have Been Imported
If I rememebr correctly, food stamps cannot be used to pay for imported goods. And most good olive oils come freom either Italy or Spain.

3. That was incredibly kind and humane!
I wonder if he was over the limit? Many seniors I know only receive $10-20 per month in food stamps.

7. He wasn't over the limit
The manager was trying to get it to go through and she said he had $17.00 dollars left on his card.

10. I'm not a hero
He probably goes hungry toward the end of the month. I felt bad for him the olive oil was a small jester of kindness.

I can't find olive oil on this list one way or another, but I see you can buy Pam no-stick spray, rose hip powder, Slim Fast products, and Arm and Hammer Dental Care Gum. Also, I didn't know this, but apparently you can also use your food stamps to buy seeds for food-bearing plants, which I think is great.

You did real good today, kiddo. All of us who keep our Italian ways thank you for taking care of this elder.

17. Damn, I love this place.
You made me tear ( 'teer', not 'tare') up.
Bless your heart.
I would have done the same, as would most here.
That's what sets us apart from the repugs.

A freeper would say:
So I was in line at the grocery store behind this old fart who could hardly speak English. Probably some kinda arab. Get this: He's trying to buy some kind of IMPORTED olive oil with FOOD STAMPS. Where do these people get off? They come over here and get on the dole and THEN want us to buy luxury stuff for them.
Hey bud, good old AMERICAN Wesson oil is good enough for me and it oughta be good enough for you too.

Bushneedsto go, ya done good.
