Rescuers Save Man And Son -- TWICE Within 24 hours
:eyes:

<snip>

LONDON (Reuters) - British rescuers had an uncomfortable sense of deja vu when they saved a man and his eight-year-old son after they drifted out to sea in an inflatable dinghy.

Just 24 hours earlier the same hapless duo were plucked to safety off a beach in Somerset, southwest England, after getting stuck in treacherous mud flats while struggling with a punctured dinghy.

Friday the would-be sailors were back at it again.

"Very disappointing," was how coastguard Steve Bird characterized the back-to-back life saving rescues.

"Yesterday we had 50 people involved in the rescue ... but, nothing seems to have been learned," he told the BBC Friday.

Coastguards had warned the 30-year-old man of the dangers of the mud after his first rescue Thursday. Friday, they were incredulous.

8. I hate the Darwin Awards..
Passing judgement smugly over other people's misery (albeit self-inflicted). Schadenfreude, plain and simple. I always thought it a very freepish activity.

3. Perhaps those rescued after failing to take adequate safety procautions
or those repeatedly rescued should be subjected to an additional tax to fund rescue efforts. Perhaps that would help to teach them?

4. I can't decide if this guy's a bell-end or a twat.......
One or the other.

He should be forced to pay for the 2nd rescue...Some people are just so arrogant and stupid that they'll never learn and be a constant burden to everyone else.

I agree.

The same way you are should your building work or lack of maintenance cause your house to need emergency pinning, The fire brigade will charge you a call out fee and an hourly rate.

5. A year and half ago near where I live
A man and his 20 something son were washed off of a bridge while in their truck during a flood and rescued. An hour or so later they went back to try to get something out of the truck. Meanwhile the river got higher and faster so they had to be rescued again. This time because of the current it took longer and put the rescue teams at a greater risk. They were both eventually pulled out of the river but the father died later at the hospital due to hypothermia.

6. After rescuing them the second time they should have "accidentally"
run over the dinghy with the boat prop. See if he can fix that puncture to have another go.

9. That happened to a surfer here once
Got rescued from dangerous ocean conditions twice within 24 hours.

After the second rescue the lifeguards issued him a citation of some kind. Maybe there really is a law against stupidity.
