*&%#@! allergies!!!
What is in the western Pennsylvania skies today?? I must have sneezed and blown my nose at least 568,793 times today. I finally caved and took a Zyrtec, so I'll get a good night's sleep tonight! I just hope the drowsiness effect doesn't carry over into tomorrow, as I have a VERY busy morning ahead of me (17, count 'em, 17 clients at court).

1. Boy do I hear ya
I have HORRIBLE airborne allergies, as does my husband AND my daughter.

We are in the process of removing ALL carpet in this house and staining and sealing the concrete subfloors (looks WAY better than it sounds) then putting down easy-care area rugs.

Sinus headaches are what hit us really bad. Right in the EYE. It's like "someone shoot me NOW."

good luck! Zyrtek is great, my daughter has to take one a DAY. Along with a prescription nose spray and Singulair. Sigh.

2. I was once tested for allergies
It was horrible. They literally put a *bed of nails* on my friggin back. Each is a little pinpoint has a different allergen on it -- if you swell up, they know you are allergic to it... just awful

4. You know what one of those allergens was?
Juice O' Cockroach.

Yep.

Ick. My daughter's had that testing twice and it was awful both times.

3. Harvest time here in NoDak and NW Minn
Saw lots of combines kicking up lots of dust, and fell like hell.

I don't know what's going on in the countryside upwind of you, but I'm guessing somebody somewhere is throwing up all sorts of crap in the air.

5. I feel for you!
I have chronic allergies. Basically, I'm allergic to everything all year round and have to take a Clairton D every day or I won't be able to function. It sucks. I hope this is just a one-day thing for you.

7. Better yet, google stainless neti.....
Those people have the best design IMHO. I use the silly thing almost daily, it is a major help - I've been able to stop using nasal steroids & antihistamines, no sinus infections. And there you have your gratuitous testimonial.

8. Vancouver/Victoria was my solution to allergies
I read that ragweed was not native to Victoria. I moved here
and my allergy problems has evaporated.

The prevailing winds go west to east... that makes the east
the tailpipe of the nation.

Check out pollen.com

9. I just googled on this
and I am sold, I want a Neti pot for each of the three of us.

I am whipping out the VISA tomorrow and ordering three!

We suffer horribly from allergies, sinus infections, you name it. Average of three sinus infections a year for EACH of us!!!

I can't wait to try this....I've heard of it before but never really paid much attention to it...

I have had ceramic ones (good), a metal one (bad, fell apart in a few months), and now a plastic "horn" one.

13. I was laid up in bed all of Friday and yesterday
stoned to the bone.

I thought it was a cold, but I have to face it -- it's allergies.

Ragweed season: INCOMING.

I went to work Friday, and everyone was wondering why I sounded so funny.

Coughing turned to sneezing turned to weezing.

I used nasal spray, and all the mucus came out, causing me to throw up.

I fucking hate this time of year.

15. What I'm allergic to:
some I can't think of right now. Just took medicine.

grass (several varieties)
trees (several varieties)
mold
dust
mildew
dust mites
cockroach
dogs
latex
weeds (several varieties -- including ragweed. ragweed has two seasons -- and the giant ragweed season begins late summer and extends to late fall. Unfortunately, I live in an area infested with ragweed).

I am allergic to cats -- rather cat dander. I treat my cats with a lotion/formula that I buy from PetSmart.

16. Good LORD woman!
You are allergic to as many things as WE are! I didn't know anyone else was as allergic as us!

My daughter's allergist kinda cracked me up when he said, "She's basically allergic to every tree, grass and weed on the surface of the planet." He was kidding. Sort of.

She is also allergic to cats as is my husband. That's why when Clarissa Marie goes to Kitty Heaven, there'll be no more kitties for us. Sniff, sniff. WAH.

17. My allergist tells me that I am part of the 3% of the population
who is overly sensitive, and allergic to everything.

I tried allergy shots twice.

They kept diluting the solution, and I still kept having severe reactions to them.

At one point, I was taking six shots a week -- three in each arm.

I had to throw in the towel. I just couldn't take it anymore.

But I have to keep cats in my life -- whatever the cost.

18. Oh my GOD
six shots a week? You are a braver woman than I.

I get by with an Allegra D from time to time, but when the sinus headaches hit, oh. my. Gawd. I want someone to just hit me in the head with a hammer and put me out of my misery. Had one so bad recently I couldn't move my head without moaning in agony and I started to cry but THAT hurt. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain but that one just SUCKED. I knocked myself out with two Actifed and about 1000 mg of acetominophen. If I had had stronger, I would have taken it.

My daughter might have to start allergy shots. She is scared silly and I feel bad for her (she's 9) but you do what you have to do!

We are going to try the Neti thing. Have you done it? See higher up in this thread if you don't know what I am talking about.
