The way they have been "protecting" him and carefully screening those who attend his meetings has a very good explanation. If his psyche is so fragile and fractured, putting him into warm, friendly venues would be akin to therapy. Getting him used to crowds. Making feel confident and comfortable while his meds are being fixed. they have high hopes that they can avoid any tough questioning by the media, yet still appear as though he is out and about like a real human being.
