"The Great Wall of China, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was enlisted in the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus stretching approximately 6,700 kilometers (4,163 miles ) from east to west of China."

7. My parents. They spent time in China
But they never told me how long the wall was. I know that they visited it. The thing I most remember that they told me about China was the bad food and their penchant for eating household pets. That freaked my mother out and stuck with me.:scared:

9. When I visited China in 1982, I stayed at the old Peace Hotel in Shanghai.
Right on the Bund with a view of the Huangpu River -- and back in the days when Shanghai didn't look much different than it had back in the 1930s or 1940s.

There was a fur coat in a glass display case in the gift shop. I got frustrated with trying to guess what kind of fur it was, so I asked the shop girl. It was dog. I also saw live puppies sold in street markets, in the same areas as they sold the live chickens. Shall I just say that the intended purchase was not of a pet...but dinner. Yecchh.

11. That's what my mother was telling me about and they visited there
more recently than you did. She saw the cages in the marketplace where they sold dogs and puppies for food. The cages were, thankfully, empty, but just the knowledge that they did this totally freaked her out. I don't think that a visit to China is in my future.:puke:

8. I've walked on the wall....
There is a section a bit of a drive from Beijing that is in excellent condition and set up for visitors -- even a gift shop nearby.

This was in September of 1982. I didn't walk the whole thing, of course.

10. You know how you just think about things???
I mean, I'm unempoloyed, and beween jobs and classes...and wanting to get in shape and live and adventure...

I'm out of shape, but, I think...that people on the wall would help me along...IF i was making a journey out of it.
