16. The "Chicago doorbell"
Sit outside in your car at 11:00 and lean on the horn.

Put your flashers on, get out of the car, and ring the doorbell. Or call them on that cellphone you're always yapping into. Jeezus.

4. I don't know if anytime is ideal
I think it's rude all around. Get out of the car and ring the doorbell. Put the hazards on and double park for a few seconds. That's better than blaring the horn

5. My feeling has always been
If a person comes to my house and is too lazy to get out and knock on the door.. then they don't need to come over.

9. used to get a lot of this a couple of doors down from me
all hours of the night, early morning, any time. finally found out it was a whore house. had a section 8 voucher, so the alderman squeezed the landlord and they got kicked out. now it's a drug dealer. the rest of the hood is pretty good tho.

11. No, not in South Philly it isn't.
Of course, it depends on how the horn is applied. If you just sit there laying it on someone is going to come out and kick your ass which leads to even more noise. A quick double rap on the horn, as long as there are a few minutes in between repetitions, is fine at any time.

15. The "ghetto doorbell" is inappropriate at any time of day.
My neighbors' friends/customers do it all the time and it drives me nuts. When I drove for Domino's I had a guy yell at me because I refused to honk my horn outside his house. I told him it was illegal (probably true).

Get out of the car and knock and keep your noise to yourself. I don't want to hear your horn any more than I want to hear the booming bass of your car stereo.

It is too late in my sleepy little suburban neighborhood though.

23. It's Too Late Anywhere, Except. . .
. . .if one is at a farmhouse, a mile from the nearest neighbor.

And trust me, i know farmhouses and open spaces. Remember i live in the middle of nowhere. Or so i've been told.

10:00 am or 10:00 pm lay on your horn in front of my building and someone is going to get an earful.
If you open your yap to object you may get a foot up your ass.

I live in Kansas City and I don't play that shit.

Get your fat lazy ass out of the car and go do like your supposed to do.

Ring or knock.

Or I'll ring your bell.

20. MUTHAFUCKA DAID
I stayed at my brother's in KC, he lived near the plaza on main, there was someone who pulled up at all hours layed on the horn yelling for robert.
I guess someone got tired of hearing it, I was sitting on the front room when they pulled up honking, and yelling for robert, and that was the answer they got.

21. MUCH too late, and rude as hell, to boot!
Even though it's known as 'the Chicago doorbell,' I was never permitted to leave the house if a friend stopped and just honked; my friend had to come to the door and knock, like a 'civilized human being' (my Gran's words).

:)

22. I wouldn't sit outside and honk anytime of the day.
I would knock on the door/ring door bell. Maybe one quick toot and then knock but not continous....

24. Absolutely
When my daughter hit about 15, all the hairy legs started showing up. If they ever pulled up and honked the horn, they got to talk to me instead of her. Only takes once.
