I cannot watch "women's gymnastics" with a straight face. ..
Two things that killed it for me:

1) Over 25 years ago, I heard National Lampoon's parody of a competition titled "Gymnasty". At that time (1977-78) Nadia Comenici was the world and Olympic champion. Comics Brian Doyle-Murray and Rhonda Coullet did the "play-by-play" of a floor exercise routine.

(snip)
(Rhonda): Don, did you see how Nadia's nipples stood out? Absolute perfection!

(Brian): Boy, I'd love to f**k her!

(Rhonda): Well, Don, I'm no lezzie, but...
(snip)

2) At least 10 years ago, Washington Post and sports columnist Tony Kornheiser commented on women's gymnastic routines, expecially done by the pre-teen "pixies", calling the hip-swings and head-tosses "soft-core kiddie porn".

Since then, it's been a losing battle with me. Those two elements ring through my brain like an ear-worm. Can't get it out of my head.

18. My wife blew a gasket over beach volleyball yesterday.
"I mean, do they HAVE to wear a thong and those skimpy little tops when they play? Is that really necessary? And they're showing it at 7pm?!?! There are KIDS watching, for heaven's sake! What kind of role models are they being for little girls across America? Is it suddenly OK to objectify women in the name of Olympic sport? And why the hell are you watching this??? Don't you know that..."

"Honey, there is also a MEN'S beach volleyball division as well."

"Oh. When is it on?"

5. cant really call it "women's" either...
i feel dirty and old watching it... and im only 18...

most of the athletes are 14-16...

it cant be healthy to peak that early in your life. i hope to god they dont get the child actor syndrome where after all the attention for awhile they go through withdrawl and have all the money at their disposal (from endorsments, i guess) and turn to drugs/whatnot.

6. I think they're all 16 and up now
It's a fairly new rule, and a good rule IMO. Although some of those Chinese girls look like they're 8.

15. Here's the rule..
..the International Gymnastics Federation decreed that, beginning with the 2000 Sydney Games, girl gymnasts must turn 16 in the Olympic year to qualify.

Looks like they have to be at least 15 years and 8 months old to compete.

you could fit the entire female Chinese gymnastics squad into just ONE of Ian Thorpe's shoes.

That's true that is.
