Watching the sky tonight......stars are falling
Oh my.......first a wonderful cool front in the middle of August (VERY unusual for TX.), a crystal clear sky and the Perseid meteor showers. I've died and gone to heaven....indescribably wonderful.

I've been seeing somewhere around 25 falling stars an hour...some crossing the entire sky dome. WOW.

8. OH SHIT!!!!
It rained for last year's and now we've got two hurricanes on the way and no one on the East Coast will see clear skies until Monday at the earliest.

I missed it one year when there was a huge fireball, too.

SHIT!

hurricane situation right now. I'm assuming you are in Florida or around those parts?

14. Not quite...
that's not Florida over there on the left.

Both hurricanes are heading up the coast, and no one seems to know just what they'll do on the way up. Except rain. Lots of rain.

Some places in central Joisey had 4" today, and the flood warnings are still up. And the first eye isn't supposed to hit until Sunday.

Down South, they may get hit really hard, but we're expecting just dismal rain and floods. We get a lot of the tail ends of hurricanes up here, and they're usually just big rainstorms by the time they get here. Direct hits are something else, and don't happen that often.

At least our floods are a lot smaller than the Mississippi. More like inconveniences than real disasters.

15. Ohhhhhhhh......JOISEY! I used to live there....great place.
And few people realize just how beautiful the countryside is in that state. Gorgeous!

Anyway, I guess it's time to tune into the hurricane info...didn't realize it was affecting states that far up the coast!

10. I will need to stay up til dawn when the show is supposed to get
really exciting....and will be accompanied by a crescent Moon and Venus rising in the East. Nature is so remarkable isn't it...whether it be storms, fog, meteor showers, northern lights, cloud formations, etc.? Just breathtaking. Sometimes it gets soooooo quiet that it seems that the entire planet is holding it's breath...not a bird singing or a cricket chirping. Deafening silence.

13. I saw one.
But I was only out to check the sky for about three minutes. It's hazy, but otherwise clear here in central Florida. My son is getting up in a little while and we'll spend an hour or so counting meteors.

Personally, I prefer the Geminids in Demcember. The weather is better and no mosquitoes. They're also very dependable.
