Perseids meteror shower TONIGHT
Anyone have plans to see the Perseid meteor shower? It peaks tonight, around 2 am. That's in your local time, since at that time, you're looking out Earth's front windshield, so to speak. But you should have some success spotting some meteors in the evening, if that's a better time for you.

The forecast for New England seems pretty awful, so I'm not sure I'll see much. For those of you facing better circumstances, post your stories here!

Here's a good source of background info: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2004/25jun_perseids2004.htm

"The annual Perseid meteor shower is coming, and forecasters say it could be unusually good."

5. when I was younger
When I was younger (12, 13, or so) my brother and I would stay outside the night of the Perseids. We pretty much always fell asleep before the show really got started.

But a couple years ago when the Leonids were strong, I managed to stay up all night. That was great!

I'm having a real hard time staying up past midnight anymore, though. Must be getting too old. *l*

3. Thanks for the reminder!
I had almost forgotten. I'll be up, no question. It's supposed to be clear here tonight.

6. Waaah.
(Note: Perseids favor northern latitudes. Because of the way Comet Swift-Tuttle's orbit is tilted, its dust falls on Earth's northern hemisphere. Meteors stream out of the constellation Perseus, which is barely visible south of the equator.)
