Gas to go down?
Do you all think I ought to wait til later in the week to fill up? I think the oil companies will lower the price after they gouge the crap out of the holiday travelers.

2. I sure hope not...
people need to use bikes and public transportation more, and high gas prices are a good incentive to do soo.

Plus, I love watching those soccer moms pay a ridiculous gas bill because they had to have a fortress for their childrens' safety.

no one wants to get serious about mass transportation the first thing they cut is bike trail upkeep and in some places they don't even bother it disgusts me to no end!

I do have to say I feel sorry for the low income workers that have to pay high prices for gas. I suppose it's because I've been one all my life and where I live and work mass transportation was not an option. Biking to work not unless I wanted to get killed.
Also not a lot of luck affording a small car that's good on gas. I finally did manage that thanks to a friend selling me their automobile.

When I had to walk to work the only job I could find was paying $4.25 an hour that was a few years ago granted, but I haven't forgotten that hard time and I realize that just because I don't live it anymore that it's gone away.
It's not so much the walking my feet can get me there it's the whole economics of the thing, don't have car can't live near the better paying jobs rents to high, gotta get to work on time bus is late, or bus doesn't even run during the hours you have to work, call a cab spend your food money it's called, 'nickeled and dimed in America' it's real!

I could care less about soccer moms it's the ones that work 2 and 3 jobs just to pay their bills the high gas prices hurt them the most.

When I see people like Trent Lott whine about not wanting to drive a 'small car'
Then he puts some laughable picture up of a small car on the senate floor as an example of what we would have to drive if they forced the automobile companies to do something about the MPG I just want to smack him.
The man doesn't understand what it's like to live work and travel in the low income class world nor does he give a shit! He's more concerned with the soccer mom being able to get her kids around or the false sense of security that he feels driving his SUV.

It's fine if you need one but I don't believe everyone needs one and I think people like Lott are being disingenuous when they hoot and whine about a MPG improvements.
I seriously don't believe that he would have to drive that picture of a car he used on the senate floor if they did their damn jobs!

5. I agree
I live in a rural area. I live close enough to work that I could possibly walk or ride a bike, although it is less safe, especially with the daylight hours getting shorter. Many of my coworkers are driving twenty miles or more though (including my best friend who drives around 40 miles living in one of the highest unemployed county in Wisconsin) because good jobs are not especially dense (Their spouse might work twenty miles away in the other direction) and it is cheaper to live in the middle of no where than in town. If you lose your good job and to get another good one you have a long commute, it is still cheaper not to move, especially since some of the workers at my plant are basically living paycheck to paycheck.

7. I too have pity for the low income workers b/c I am one.
...fortunately, I can ride a bike to work, walk if I had to, or take the bus.

Well, it isn't an option for everyone, not everyone has to do it for gas prices to drop.

You mentioned that no one is serious about mass transport and bike trails. Well, if the cost of gas were to get silly expensive, then they would. It would be awful for the poor who have to drive to work, but I think long term it would benefit them.

If people were to use their bikes or mass transport, the money would be there for it. And due to supply and demand, the gas prices would fall for the poor workers.
