My brothers and I buried my Dad today. Input on flagboxes anyone?
He was in the Air Force and I currently have the flag I was presented today. I saw a nice display box at flagsandbanners.com, but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on whether one is preferable to another.

The one that I like is about $274.00 and has a glass top with a drawer in the bottom that I can put his discharge papers, etc. in.

This is the part of getting older that REALLY sucks.

1. My condolences, However, can't offer any advice abou the boxes.
You're right--it does suck. My mother died at 81 this May--the diseases of the old are very difficult for all those involved.

2. Does It Have UV Protected Glass?
That would help to prevent fading if you display the flag box in a bright area.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

7. Thank you and I'll check on the UV glass. That's one part of protecting
it that I didn't think about.

3. So sorry to hear that... God bless you and your family.
I buried my WW2 Air Force vet dad last year.

As a working class type, I had to think about price--I got a beautiful custom one at CraftNart for about 150 dollars. They do as much framing as the specialists and are very knowledgeable--they recommended three good ones right away.

It's cherry, and just beautiful.

8. Thank you. Perhaps when I feel differently than I do today I'll go out
shopping and looking around for one. I've done quite a bit of staining and finishing and it would be a bonus for me to know that I had my hands involved in making it!

15. Good luck with the box search.
It's nice to see someone taking some time to do things "right" instead of just doing it halfassed.

11. I'm sorry you lost your dad, tnlefty. It's definitely one of

the bad things about getting older. Best wishes to you and the rest of the family.

14. I'm so sorry for your loss.
My dad died almost three years ago and it still hurts.

I agree with the suggestion to try a framing/craft store (Michael's, Frame Factory, etc.) and ask for advice. They are extremely helpful & knowledgeable. They may also be able to work with you to do some of it yourself.

If you want a fast, cheaper alternative, mail order catalogs like Lillian Vernon have them (I suspect they don't have UV glass, though).

Good luck and take care. I wish I could tell you that this doesn't suck, but it does.

16. Thank you, and I think that if I can find one that I can work on it will
help in more ways than one. I'm not thinking clearly, can't read, get ansy so if I had a project to help me to fill in some of those moments I think that it will really help a lot.

It sucks almost as bad as losing a baby boy 12 yrs. ago. I haven't felt this bad in a long time.

17. I have my grandfathers flag
He was in the Taffy one convoy during WWII - 5 Battle Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, and Philippines Campaign Ribbon. I bought a funerary flag box from Michael's for $30 but I am looking for a Window box with space for his flag, medals, pictures of him and his ship (U.S.S. Kalinin Bay). There is a guy in Orange County that has one that will fit the bill for $165. I am trying to find his flyer and when I do I will PM you with his info.

I've been there. It's almost sad how life goes on without them.
