Anyone ever ship a car?

I'm eyeing purchasing a car that's down in Maryland. I'm in Massachusetts. Aside from flying/taking the Acela train down there and doing an 8.5 hour drive back, there's the option to ship.

Has anyone ever shipped a car? How was the experience? It looks like the cost would be around $500 after looking at a few shippers. I suppose it's a tradeoff of money v. time.

I shipped a car from Germany to Baltimore.

By the time I got home to Illinois, there was a section of the exhaust system that had been cut out. I suspected it was on the ship, but couldn't prove it.

However, my parents have shipped cars many times with no problems.

I guess I'd say, just have the car checked out when you pick it up.

Well, time is of the essence in terms of getting it from MD to MA.

I haven't decided yet if it's too much trouble.
