spent three hours in uly's classroom today
His teacher's aide Salin had enough of my impudent behavior, and I sat in the corner, wishing I could play with those freshly sharpened pencils instead. :dunce:

3. Maybe if you did your work on time and quit goofing off...
you could have weekends off. That's just a suggestion, and I hope you don't take offense.

8. well, I salute BOTH of you
I substituted for Special Ed a few times, including the severely disabled. You name it, I did it... high school age, not a lot older than your students.

13. WAS
Left that behind 6 years ago, and never looked back.

And I was damn good, just tired of good programs for the at-risk youth I taught getting the budget ax and being without work for stretches in-between. Do not ever become a teacher in WA state. If the stupid admins won't kill you, the idiotic and apathetic parents will.

I suspect that is common.

16. That's for sure!
Stupid admins and idiotic and apathetic parents are certainly not found only in WA! Growing up with two teachers drilled that lesson into my head at an early age.

14. I had severely/profoundly disabled kids this summer
They were a complete trip, the diapers notwithstanding. :) I should be so lucky with my kids for the whole school year.

15. yep
You can include "diapers" in my "did it all" above. :-)

Just don't take any crap from the admins! You did say this was your first foray into public schools. I support public schools with my heart and soul, but it can be a real uphill struggle UNLESS you are blessed with good people above you who know when to help, and when to stay out of the way and let you teach.

And good people are out there - just make sure they know it!
