New Green Day song "American Idiot"...
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 11:35 AM by southpaw
Has anyone else heard it yet? If so, wht do you think?

I've never really been a fan of Green Day, but it sounds like they are on our side politically.

Maybe I'm the Fuckhead, America,
I'm not a part of the Red-Neck agenda.
Everybody do the propaganda
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn't meant to be o.k...

1. yeah, last night while i was at work
DEFINITELY leftist undertones to the song. I couldn't believe the radio station that aired it hasn't boycotted it yet. They followed the song by airing a preview of their Friday morning show where one of the Swiftboatsmen for Truth Repukes was going to be interviewed.

2. The station I heard it on has a blatantly freepy morning team!
The song sounds like Green Day circa 1994-95. A little more melodic on the chorus, perhaps. Nice lyrics.

3. yeah, the guitar chords were straight out of Dookie
my freepy morning team was able to get the interview because a few of the founding kooks live around here (norfolk/virginia beach). doubt there will be any sort of counter-argument.
i heard the song as part of the head to head new song competition the station runs every weeknight at 9. a couple of the callers who were voting voted for korn, bc :they never realized green day was anti-american"

4. Greenday is the only band that really deserves the name of
"pop-punk". Fuck Blinkwhatever and the rest of them. GD has been doing leftist songs forever.

5. Maybe I shoulda paid them more attention...
I never hated them, as is the tendency of some my age (who were around for 'real' punk...) but just didn't take them seriously.

Blink 182 is like a 'punk' boy-band.

6. I know where you are coming from...
There are some GD songs that just make me cry....they're so real. I can't say I'm a "Fan" but I'll say that I'd hang out to hear them live if I could.

NOT a lefist song, but guess who I think about when I hear this song?

"Platypus (I Hate You)"

Your rise and fall
Back up against the wall
What goes around is coming back and haunting you
It's time to quit
Cause you ain't worth the shit
Under my shoes or the piss on the ground

No one loves you and you know it
Don't pretend that you enjoy it or you don't care
Cause now I wouldn't lie or tell you all the things you want
to hear.
I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU

I heard your sick
Sucked on that cancer stick
A throbbing tumor and a radiation high
Shit out of luck
And now your time is up
It brings me pleasure just to know you're going to die

Dickhead, Fuckface, cock smoking, mother fucking, asshole,
dirty twat, waste of semen, I hope you die HEY

Red eye, code blue
I'd like to strangle you
And watch your eyes bulge right out of your skull
When you go down
Head first into the ground
I'll stand above you just to piss on your grave

9. I used to love Miller...
Had a bunch of his rants on mp.3

I had the Dennis Miller Show with Al Franken just before Y2K. It was hilarious.

So sad that he's such a heinous right-wing shill these days. Who woulda thunk it?

10. You gotta watch out when they spawn
I've lost track of people I respected who moved to the right when they had kids. It doesn't happen to everyone, but there's a change that does happen with children.

11. Leave it to punk

Green Day is DEFINATELY on our side politically. They are involved in the "Rock Against Bush" thing that is going on. They hail from San Francisco. I like these guys...yea, yea...Can't like "pop punk", and being a Bad Religion LOYALIST I have to maintain cred, but I give kudos to good bands who do good songs. Here is a set of lyrics from Bad Religions latest CD...they don't do songs like "Fuck Bush"...they are more subtle in their attack.

BAD RELIGION
"Let Them Eat War"

There's a prophet on a mountain and he's making up dinner
With long division and writing crop
Anybody can feel like a winner
When it's served up piping hot

But the people aren't looking for a handout
They're America's working corps
Can this be what they voted for?

Let them eat war
That's how to ration the poor
Let them eat war

There's an urgent need to feed
Declining pride

From the force to the union shops
The war economy is making new jobs
But the people who benefit most
Are breaking bread with their benevolent hosts

Who never stole from the rich to give to the poor
All they ever gave to them was a war
And a foreign enemy to deplore

Let them eat war
That's how to ration the poor
Let them eat war

There's an urgent need to feed
Declining pride

We've got to kill 'em and eat 'em
Before they reach for their checks
Squeeze some blue collars
Let them bleed from their necks
Seize a few dollars from the people who sweat
Cause it's freedom or death and they won't question it
At a job site the boss is god like
Conditioned workhorses park at a stoplight
Seasoned vets with their feet in nets
A stones throw away from a rock fight
But not tonight, feed ‘em death

Here comes another ration (feed them death)
Cause they're the finest in the nation (feed them death)
When there's nothing left to feed them
When it's freedom or it's death

Let them eat war
That's how to ration the poor
Let them eat war

There's an urgent need to feed
