He is the most disagreeable, abrasive man on earth. He is not insightful or funny. His show is disorganized with long series of dead air.

How is he so famous?

1. I remember vacationing in Atlantic City many years ago
and Imus used to do his radio show from outside Convention Hall. He was in fact charming, funny, very quick - it was a different era and a different kind of radio, even popular radio wasn't dumbed-down like it is today. In NY and Philly there were legitimate brains on the air doing impressive radio - here in Philly we had Jack McKinney (who was not only a progressive, but was an expert on boxing and opera, and who had a breadth of knowledge you just don't hear anymore - and Art Milner and Bob Menefee. Imus is simply the last man stsanding from the old days and is 'venerated' due to his longevity. It is weird to watch him in the AM on MSGOP because he's simply a shell of his former self. He was always, BTW, irreverent, but neutral politically since both sides in those days gave plenty of fodder for humor.

2. Much of what Howard Stern says is bloated ego speak, but...
He's right on when it comes to Imus. I used to listen to Imus in the early 80's before Howard Stern hit the same station and the same area. And Stern is right on when he says that Imus pretty much was like a poor man's cousin brucie type DJ. He would play records, throw in a sound effect and say "How's your Donkey Kong baby?" and that was the extent of his "vision". Then when Stern hit big he started doing full time talk radio and less music.

3. As a comparison to the RWing Nuts that are on.
The Imus show is easy listening if you keep your tongue in your cheek and don't take stuff too seriously.

At least there is a variety of input from the phone guests, and if you know any Southern Missourians like Charles, they are easy to understand.

I can almost guarantee, none of the other shows put on the flick of Flubia's yesterday performance and laughed about it on the air.

And when "Ed the Republican Shill" comes on later, I can just turn off the volume until it is over.

Charles went to Kickapoo High School in Springfield, as Did AssCroft, and recently one of the Walmart Grandchildren who is currently at MU on basketbal scholarship. It's the environment.

It is something like living in Western Kansas, where a "positive" response is 'spect so, uhhhh, and might so.

4. Honestly, we can't.
I don't really think he's a man of conviction, but I can say that about every media head these days. He reminds me of the guy whose highlight of the day is when he's surrounded by his pals at cocktail hour where they trash anyone that isn't within range of slugging them.
