3. I've been to 3
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 10:55 PM by Cousinit13
Two of which were in NY and the other one was Kennedy Space Center...I'm feeling pretty crappy that I haven't traveled much off the east coast of the US. If I win the lottery, it will be my life's mission to see all of those places and more.

On edit: Iv'e been to Trump's Taj Mahal in Atlantic City...does that count?

But Petra, by far, was the coolest! The Dead Sea was kinda cool, but I ended up getting pretty drunk and asking people what the big deal was. :silly: And Neuschwanstein Castle is by desktop wallpaper. :D

7. four- but I grew up in NYC, so I start out with 3.
The 4th was the Kennedy Space Center, and I don't remember it that well. I was about 6 years old at the time, and very anxious to get to disney world- once we finished seeing the sights of the space center, we were off to Mickey-land.

And I am going to the 5th on Saturday (Santorini).

It's a shame I haven't been to the Met in NY yet. That would be 6.

11. 28 of those sites
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 11:11 PM by Ramsey
I've been to 28 of them, mostly the one in the US, Europe or Greece/Turkey.
Edit: Correction: 31 of the sites, on closer look.

Sadly, many of the sites in the Middle East don't seem like safe destinations at the moment. I'd love to go to Egypt!!!!

Peru and Galapagos are high on my list of to-do soon though too.

16. Concentrated sites
I've been to most of the sites they list in the US, Mexico, France, Italy, England, Greece, Turkey and Germany. I've never been to the Middle East, Russia or Asia. I've been to South America, but not to any of the sites they list. Yet!

29. Eight - I need to get out more
How come the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, California didn't make the list? It's really cool!

¥¥¥¥
Thousands have visited this natural phenomenon since its discovery in 1940 and many have returned to show their friends the numerous variations of gravity, perspective, compass, velocity, and height that intrigue the visitor to come again. It's unusual, it's amazing, it's wholesome, interesting entertainment.

It's crazy -- it's perplexing -- it's nature's black magic. That's why it is called the Mystery Spot. The Doubting Thomas who heads for the Spot finds himself amoung the puzzled when he staggers out to regain his sense of balance and perspective.

How can you explain laying a carpenter's level across two cement blocks noting for yourself their tops are on the same level, then standing on one and seeing your companion on the other above or below you. Mystery in the Mountains!

Recently discovered is a spot, 150 feet in diameter, located in the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. The visitor to this Mystery Spot leans towards the southwest upon entering the area, and the lean becomes more acute as he proceeds towards the center of the spot. Even the trees here do not stand perpendicular.

The sensational Mystery Spot is a series of surprises that are unique, different, inexplainable. It is not like anything else I ever saw or heard of and I have seen most of the noted places in California and many other states. It appears as though every law of gravitation has gone haywire, turned topsy-turvy and just doesn't make sense. Some unseen magnetism or phenomenon just upsets all former ideas of equilibrium. What is it that makes one stand up leaning backwards or sideways? See if you can find it.

Until the upside-down, kitty-cornered phenomenon is officially proven or disproven, The Mystery Spot leaves the matter entirely up to its' visitors, the photographers and Dame Nature.

Were you serious?

I was born in Minnesota and grew up in Minnesota, Alaska, and Oregon. My Dad lives in Duluth...

Once you see Alaska,

everything else is Kansas. And I've seen Kansas..

40. HooHoo, 32!!
I was fortunate as a kid that my parents took us on vacation every year to a different place in the US and even more fortunate to spend a year of college studying architure based in Versailles. Part of each 16 week semester included 4 weeks of mandatory travel for "independent study." Many of the places on the list are structures we studied.

Add in xmas and spring breaks and 3 weeks after school was out to see scandanavia I was blessed to have been able to bum around for about 15 weeks.
