My son is a better liberal than you!
Tonight at dinner, my nine-year-old said several great things without any prompting from his liberal dad:

"If I become President, I'm going to give all the money to the poor people, because nobody is taking care of them";

"There shouldn't be any money. Anything bad that happens in this world is because of money.";

"They shouldn't even print money anymore, because doing that kills trees and the trees supply us with oxygen!"

Did I mention that I love my son more than anything? :loveya:

1. Your kid is cute but someday I'm sure he'll learn
The money system is a tad more efficient than the old barter system.

However if someday we could make money digital that would be cool, but we're talking some serious security measures would have to be implemented.

3. Actually, I did try to explain that to him tonight.
I used the example of trash collecting. I said, if there was no money, and people didn't get paid, then who would voluntarily be the trashman?

I don't want to dampen his youthful idealism too much just yet, though. :D

10. I think there's a lot of people that will argue that one with you
1) There's an underground barter economy that's been growing in the US for the last several years, where people will trade services and skills. An example is here.
2) Barter has been rejected by mainstream economists for a long time because of the idea that you have to have a double occurrence of needs-I need A and have B, you need B and have A-which they say is unlikely. Think about it, and how much consumerism drives the Us. It isn't unlikely. Everyone wants everything.
3) The use of money as an agreed exchange is efficient, except that money itself is a limited resource. Since it is, those who can manage to control the money supply control the economy. Very much one of the problems we have today.

He's a good kid. I'm not trying to correct him or anything, cuz he doesn't need that. I'm still a kid, too.
