Cruise ship prank made 'em seasick
BY OWEN MORITZ
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

A Carnival cruise ship was thrown into turmoil after pranksters got control of the public address system and told passengers and crew members to "abandon ship" just hours before it was to dock in New York.
"People freaked out," said Chris Vig, 36, of New Hyde Park, L.I., who was on the ship as it returned Saturday with about 1,000 passengers from a seven-day cruise to the Bahamas. "It was absolute panic."

Many passengers thought terrorists had seized control of the ship, Vig said.

Carnival officials confirmed the incident occurred Saturday about 3:45 a.m. aboard the Miracle as it was returning to New York - and blamed the prank on "guest or guests" who got into an area "that is normally locked and unoccupied."

but I'm surprised someone didn't jump overboard and drown. That would be par for the course for the "Terror! Panic!" crowd.

2. I can't believe this hasn't gotten more of a response here.
That's a funny prank. I don't think I would have the balls to pull something like that.

3. Now THIS I Would Pay to See
If someone commandeered the PA system at the GOP convention and yelled "Terror Alert! Clear the building!" What a sight that would be.

6. I guess I don't think it's funny.
Would it be amusing if someone had tried to jump off and broken a leg, an arm, or a hip? Or died? How about if they had a heart attack - would that qualify as a real knee-slapper?

Is screaming fire in a crowded theater fun? Would it be even better if some people got trampled and hurt - or killed?

Why does this sound about like the folks who think that shooting some homeless guy with a paint gun is good clean fun? Or would it be better to just soak him with gasoline and light him up? All that screaming should add to the fun, right?

I'd like to think that we, as progressives, are a little better than to get our jollies from hurting or scaring people. Or am I wrong about this?

7. No, you're not wrong.
Many people on this forum have a very infantile sense of humor.
