I am SO happy I did not attend services this morning!
A friend told me this evening that it was a very good thing that I did not go to services this morning. Seems the rabbi gave a sermon about work in America in 2003. Trouble is it was heavily scewed in favor of the employer. He said that the reason American workplaces are in the shape they are today is due to the corrupting influence of government and labor unions! Oh had I been there EVERY curl on my head of very curly hair would have IMMEDIATELY straightened! Oy vey! Has he forgotten what his grandparents went through when they came to the US?
He also bemoaned the fact that there is a restaurant called TGI Fridays. He said there should be one called TGI Mondays or Too Bad it's Friday! This is a guy who probably has never had to work for a real boss a day in his over privileged life! He said focusing on the end of the work week is demonstrative of the negative attitude towards work which exists in the US.
IF I have a bad attitude toward work it is born of experience. It is born of the experience of having employers use me like any other resource. Once I have outlived my usefulness they opt for a new and cheaper model. I now have the attitude that I will work hard for an employer but my job is not the end all. I will try to learn as much as I can so that I can add it to my resume and use it on my next job.
