Internet explorer problem
maybe its some external problem somebody else is or has had, but it has taken me forever to get here, I don't want to risk looking around and getting "sorry can't display the page message".

Problem started yesterday afternoon - talked to my server, they said it wasn't them. Was having trouble linking to ANY websites, even favorites. kept getting that generic message to refresh or check settings. sometimes if i hit check settings I would get to the site but all graphics were missing. Then this morning I couldn't get anywhere. Email has worked fine the whole time. (outlook express)

WTF. after a while today I opened a second IE window - and it worked FINE! Just a little while ago it stopped so I shut everything down and started up again - seems to be working, made it here - hope it continues, but if anybody can tell me what is happening and I can get back - THANKYOU - actually maybe if you could e-mail me I would for sure get that....

and now ... I will try to post. (fingers crossed)

1. Your computer may be LOADED with spyware, etc.
Can slow it down to a complete stop, page lockups, etc.
Do you use a spyware cleaner/shield?

have adaware - did that, have Norton antivirus - did another full scan yesterday (regular on Fridays), plus have an add on (postini or something) from my server for the email. Did a disc scan and defragged yesterday - dumped temp internet files etc.

Seems to be working right now again. Any other Ideas?

edit: oh yeah one other symptom, the kids say when they were playing a game yesterday it "skipped" a couple or more times - sort of like when they were typing commands the letters wouldn't show up then it would "jump" and they would be there (I noticed this as well yesterday on line) the kids were off line. Also they said it sometimes seemed like the "flow" of the animation sometimes went like frames intsead of smooth - does that make sense - it wasn't all the time just intermitently.

5. IE will always be vulnerable
There are lots of hackers who love sabotaging Microsoft, and IE is a favorite target. I would never use it. My husband has been outlawed from using it on my computer. I get tones of crap email after he has been on-line. MIE has had lots of problems with security, and every time they have an update for IE's security, the patch is probably already broken. I would never, never trust IE.

The best free browser is Mozilla FireFox. The best of all browsers, IMHO, is Opera <http://www.opera.com/download/> , which I normally use. Firefox can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ If you are love cats like I do, go to this link for a great cat skin for FireFox. http://www.bluecatsgraphics.com/ :hippie:

6. this can't be said enough---
after you get rid of the spyware (www.ada-ware.com) quit using IE!!! This is the cause of most spyware infestations. Go to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and download Firefox. It has many more features (tabbed-browsing for one) and is inherently safer to run, especially if you must run on a (barf) windows system.
