Bow Down to Washington, they will beat Ohio St.
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 03:36 PM by dawgman
Bow Down to Washington,
Bow Down to Washington.
Mighty are the men who wear the Purple and the Gold,
Joyfully we welcome them within the Victor's fold.
We will carve our name in the Hall of Fame,
To preserve the memory of our Devotion.

Chorus
So, heaven help the foes of Washington,
They're trembling at the feet of mighty Washington.
Our boys are there with bells,
Their fighting blood excells,
It's harder to push them over the lines than pass the Dardanelles.
So Victory's the cry of Washington
Our leather lungs together with a Rah! Rah! Rah!
And o'er the land, the loyal band**
Will sing the glory of Washington forever!

dawgman's prediction: UW 31
OSU 20
Cody Pickett 24-31, 3 TD O INT 321 YDS
Reggie Williams 7 REC 128 YDS 1 TD
Charles Frederick 11 REC 156 YDS 2 TD

5. Well, it ain't happened yet.
But you're absolutely right. How many times has FSU lost at the beginning of the season and beat out other one-loss teams to play for the MNC? Didn't Miami do it three years ago, too? It is better to lose early.

But it ain't happened yet. And if it does, it will surprise me.

7. I have to defend Ohio State on this one
He didn't play versus Cinny, but they beat them 23-19 and Lydell Ross got 130 rushing yards. He only got 4 carries with 39 yards versus Penn State, they won 13-7 and Lydell Ross got 40 yards, Craig Krenzel got got 39, and Maurice Hall got 20 yards. He didn't play versus Minnesota and Lydell Ross got 89 yards, Maurice Hall got 93, and JaJa Riley got 26. Add those together and you got 200+ without Clarett. He also didn't play against Illinois but Maurice Hall got 69 yards, Lydell Ross got 51 and Craig Krenzel got 26. Every game that Maurice didn't play in, Ohio State got over 100 yards, in one game they got over 200 yards. All three of those backs are returning, Lydell Ross is going to be starting and Ohio State is going to get atleast 100 yards on Washington.

10. Last year maybe but the young defense has
matured. Manase Hopoi is a stud. Moving Greg Carrothers from safety to whip LB is a good move. Terry Johnson is a stud at DE and Josh Miller is solid at tackle. The LB's are maybe the best since '91 and they have a new D coordinator.

I posted once in last night's thread. I posted here to say that your team aren't very good sports, owing to their behavior in the third quarter.

I'm more than happy to fight with you.

Let's talk about some of the cheaper shots your team's defense perpetrated on our quarterback, despite being ahead 25 points. One of the more interesting ones (to me,) was popping his helmet off during a sack, and not getting called for it. Does Ohio often brag such poor sportsmanship?

Again. Enjoy your victory. I'm sure you'll relish another national championship. In the meantime, we'll try to rebuild after being the latest victims of Rick Neuheisel.

Again, maybe next year you can play yourselves. It'll be great!

Has it occurred to you that perhaps our team needed the snaps with the first-string quarterback? Then again, how dare we fight back? Maybe we should have just forfeited during halftime, and the victory celebration could have started sooner.

Who's crying here? You're pretty testy for someone whose team just won in a blowout.

36. Thank you for acknowledging it was a blowout.
I never run my mouth before the game. Sometimes I say what I think regarding the game, but it's not like the original post of this thread. It's rare that I give a prediction.

This thread was about how Washington was going to win because OSU couldn't defend their passing attack. If you don't believe me, read the opening post.

That post was wrong. If you really have a Heisman contender, as I've read here, there is no point in making the score more pallatable. You have a stud QB, remember? He doesn't need the reps. He's a Heisman contender, for Christ's sake.

Why was he in? To make the margin of loss more acceptable to the faithful back in Washington. Period.

That's taking a chance with your stud QB. The second stringers OSU had in wanted to prove themselves to the coaching staff. And they sacked your stud, knocking his helmut off. Happens all the time, and nothing was against the rules. A hard hit knocked the helmut off, without grabbing the facemask. Did Coby like it? Probably not.

My point is that all the crying about that hit is without merit. He shouldn't have been in the game at that point, and you know it. There's a reason you're ranked nationally. And your QB is most of the reason. He doesn't need the reps in a blowout.

That was the battle cry of many teams last year....and they all came and went.

Kliff Kingsbury, Jason Gesser, Larry Johnson, Willis MacGahee, Ken Dorsey....all pushed for the Heisman by their schools last year. None shall pass.

Washington was no different tonight.

Hell, they didn't even have positive rushing yardage until 3 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter. No QB can overcome that.

Cheap shot? Hardly.<

A couple of plays later, one of your defenders finally got whistled for chopping Pickett in the throat. Ahead by 25, and your defense still can't control itself? Sheesh.

>It was a clean game....you got beat. If you don'tlike your superstar QB getting sacked hard in a blowout, don't put him on the field.<

Really? Keith Jackson seemed to think so. He also believed that it should have been called.

I just went back and watched it again. Keith Jackson said NOTHING about it. Dan Fouts was speaking and referred to pushing the QB back several yards as "adding insult to injury" and then laughed. Keith Jackson said that Washington "got a gift" with the spot of the ball. Neither man said anything about the helmet.

Please, you're digging a hole. Stop. Ask trumad if you need help.

A couple of plays later, one of your defenders finally got whistled for chopping Pickett in the throat.

No, Simon got vcalled for pushing him to the ground. Not a chop to the throat. He pushed him in the shoulder after the ball was away and got called for it.

Please, Julie. Stop exaggerating, especially to people who taped the game and can watch it again (and post pistures, MP3s of commentators, etc). Accept your loss without making things up to justify it.

If Rick Neuheisel was still your coach, you would have had a much better shot against us. And a much better shot for the rest of the season. IMO, Rick Neuheisel did nothing to warrant a firing. Washington had issues with him, and I understand that, but the man was fired for playing an NCAA tourny pool. Give me a break. I'll bet the President of the University and the Athletic Director played one, too. Who doesn't play one?

>If Rick Neuheisel was still your coach, you would have had a much better shot against us.<

I doubt that. The Neuheisel miracle started running out last season. It seems he's not as interested in teaching fundamentals as he is in photo ops and moneymaking opportunities.

>And a much better shot for the rest of the season. IMO, Rick Neuheisel did nothing to warrant a firing.<

Yes, he did. You might want to read the coverage on Rick Neuheisel's testimony in the archives of the Seattle Times.

>Washington had issues with him, and I understand that, but the man was fired for playing an NCAA tourny pool. Give me a break. I'll bet the President of the University and the Athletic Director played one, too. Who doesn't play one?<

Anyone who wants to retain a job in college athletics.

Neuheisel was told to NOT bet on college athletics. At all. He was making $1.5 million per year. Only an idiot would compromise that kind of salary -- and his future employment -- over a betting pool.

>I don't even like Rick Neuheisel. Never had. But firing him for playing an NCAA pool is cheap<

He should have been fired for interviewing with the 49ers on the sly, then lying to the athletic director about it, but hell, what do I know? After all, he's a free agent. It doesn't matter that he lied on several occasions, over several different issues.

Yep, I can see that. But that's not why they fired him.

I would love a link to the story in the Seattle Times that you reference. I've been led to believe that betting in an NCAA Hoops pool is very, very minor, if not against the rules at all. Not a terminatable offence, in other words. I maintain that Washington just wanted rid of him (and I don't blame them, really) and used this to fire him. That is what Rick's lawsuit alleges, anyway.

Hey I don't like him either. But fair's fair.

One of those hits that a DB dreams of. Jarred the ball loose, rang the bell.

Of course, it was highly illegal, he pulled out brass knuckles after it was over, went in the stands to smack the player's mother and taunt a child, and the commentators said it should have been a 35 yard penalty.

It's the beginning of the season they'll work it out during practice this week. He'll have an wheelchaired person kicked about 5 ft. in the air by the time we play that team up north.

55. I hope so
Monday of Michigan Week is when the team practices the Quadraplegic Discus Toss. He'd better be in shape before that.

Silliness over. Sleep now.

Goodnight all.

There is still joy in Buckeye land. We have won 15 in a row.

49. What's all the fuss
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 12:05 AM by Capn Sunshine
I'm surprised there's even a controversy over Ohio playing dirty.
Everyone knows that's just how they play.

Doesn't change the fact they kicked ass today.
I guess a coach is more important than we thought.

Oh and in the morning, the Buckeyes will wake up and they'll be in Ohio....no amount of beer will change THAT

54. Well, here's a question.
"I'm surprised there's even a controversy over Ohio playing dirty.

Evidence of this? I thought not.

You sound like Kenneth Starr.

63. LOL what evidence?
This isn't a criminal trial, I'm just tweaking your sensitive ass Ohio personna

The dirty play tradition of OSU goes back to Woody Hayes. I'll show you the cleat scar on my shin where I was kicked by that fine team when down in 1973.

67. Yes
but, he admited that he was wrong for doing it. His team's didn't play dirty at all, now those teams up north that were coached by Bo the trader played real dirty.

65. 1973?
You are, of course, kidding, right?

That somehow translates into "I'm surprised there's even a controversy over Ohio playing dirty.
Everyone knows that's just how they play?"

Maybe you have a spike mark from when I was three. Maybe you don't. Maybe you're just an Ohio State hater. How am I to know? Got a picture? Do you have a film of the OSU boy in 1973 giving you the scar?

I have scars, too. You did them to me. No, I don't have proof.

You see my point.

But all that is irrelevent to how the current OSU team plays. Give me current dirty play, or shut up.

69. You're losing credibility fast.
Better come up with something. Even if you have to make it up, which I suspect you will have to do.

At least, give us a clue. Who did you play for in 1973? What is your real name? You can PM it to me, but I need it to verify that you are who you say you are. I need it to verify that you played for a college football team in 1973. And that you played against Ohio State.

Come on. You made the claim. Back it up.
