Anyone who have doggies and kitties that pet and/or groom each other?
Or any other story of inter-species interaction?

1. I had a huge German Shepard & a tiny 3 legged cat
that thought they were brother & sister.

The dog would protect the cat from the neighbor dogs like she was his baby. It was amazing.

The cat would lay in the middle of the doorway where the dog had to pass to get to his bowl. He would attempt to step over her, but she would reach up and pop his balls - each time. Poor old good natured dog.

They're both dead now. I miss them both something terrible.

Wolf and Big Kitty. They were mighty fine companions.

2. Yep. New kitten and 90 Pound Hound are best of pals
and I got my arm boo-boos scrubbed by both of them tonight.

The other night, the kitten got her foot tangled up and hurt it a little. The big dog called her over to his side and snuggled her and quieted her down.

She walks under him and tries to wrap her little tail around him as she does, just like the old cat used to do, but he was big and his tail reached.

Havocdad just came in to tell me she is asleep on the big dog's fluffy tail in the other room.

Here they are, just 4 days after the kitten came to live with us

We got another cat cuz the big dog was just so sad when the old cat died. The old cat loved to scrub the dog's face. He even went camping with us and followed the dog around in the rain to check things out at one lovely campsite.

3. My friend's dog & cat were that way...

The cat actually barked. It thought it was a dog. Serious, it was really funny to hear the cat try to bark. But that's what it was doing.

They grew up together & were best friends, until the dog passed away recently. Kitty been much sadder ever since. :(

4. My roommate has two cats and a very friendly dog.
Mystique, Patrick's 50-pound pit bull, loves everyone, including the cats. When she's not licking me, Patrick, or whoever else happens to be visiting the condo, Mystique is nuzzling and licking one of the kitties. It's quite sweet! :loveya:

5. My last dog baby sat my female cat's kittens for her
It was a very handy arrangement. But the dog had no luck nursing the kittens, dispite everyones determination to make it work.

My mom had a Samoyd (sp?) who came home with a stray kitten. He let the kitten sleep on his front paws and tucked his chin over her. Montana is cold when you are a tiny, homeless kitten. The fluffy white dog kept her cozy. She would climb up on him, hook her back legs behind his ears, hand down his face and scrub him while hanging there upside down.

Last year, my husband flushed a mouse our of a hiding place in the garage and the 90 Pound Hound grabbed it, held it tenderly, scrubbed it and tried like the dickens to keep my husband from taking it away and disposing of it. Dog was pissed for 3 days.

He also has a toad playmate in the back yard during the summer months (toads here not toxic variety, but I still won't let the dog bring him into the house.)

6. well, the dog DOES groom the cat
but only her ... ahem ... "rear end".

It's some sort of interspecies lesbian action that I've got going on here.

8. Sister's dog
dry nursed a homeless kitten - I have a picture but its late and I don't know how to load pix into these posts yet. That cat belongs to the dog - other cat's are in mortal danger around that dog - as are other dogs and adults. She really only likes her owners, children and her cat.

9. My Kyra, a Pit-mix
raised two kittens. The older on Enki showed up about 5 weeks old, the younger Xander showed a year later barely over 3 weeks old, half frozen and 3/4 starved to death. Both cats still try to nurse on her (I think because of their young ages when they adopted us) and all three are constantly grooming each other...

It's a big inter-species love fest... Frist tried to warn us, didn't he :)

11. One cat and one horse.
One of my horses loves one of my cats. The cat will get up on the lower half of the stall door and rub against the horses nose. The horse will then lick and groom the cat until he is soaked. It is quite funny. This same cat got onto one of my horses backs when she was a foal they were quite close.
