Something REALLY DISGUSTING about my city.
Maybe it's not just here but I've noticed for quite some time now that there are flattened out, blackened wads of gum on the sidewalks EVERYWHERE in this city (Philadelphia). I'm not exaggerating when I say that I could probably count a THOUSAND or more in the course of a few blocks. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!

1. Yeah, I hate that.
It's wierd 'cuz you don't seee that many fresh ones. Maybe it's gum built up ovver decades...

5. Not only do I almost never see any fresh ones...
...but I don't think I even see that many people chewing gum--or spitting it out. It's as though these little black blobs are just part of the pavement. They are just THERE. And there...and there...

2. Here in Canada it's illegal to spit gum in the street
At least that's what some guy said back in the '60's.

So we just don't do it.

6. If you could see the sidewalks here...
...you'd know just what a big favor that guy back in the '60's did for you.

3. Summer is a good time to scrape it off as it softens with the heat.
Often it is still quite flavorful!

are located.

10. Do some DNA testing.
Maybe you can come up with Ben Franklin's gum and make a lot of money by selling it on E-Bay.

11. The sidewalks here could keep DNA testers in work...
...for the rest of their lives.

12. They're always in front of grocery stores here for some reason,
It took me years to figure out it was GUM. LOL.

14. Imagine the sidewalks...
...in front of those grocery stores stretching from one end of the city to the other. That's what I have to look at every day.

13. Been to Philly and I can attest to it - but would you rather have the
amount of vomit one finds in Manhattan?

15. Oh ick.
We were in Flagstaff, AZ recently on a road trip and we got out of the van in a grocery store parking lot and stepped RIGHT into a giant mound of vomit.

The really gross thing was you could totally still tell it was either pizza or pasta or something. Definitely had tomatoes in it.

Urg.

16. Uh, no.
It's funny that you should mention that though. For some reason, last summer there was a mini-epidemic of vomit on the sidewalks of Philly. It was freaking me out.
