"Alien vs. Predator"
Are you psyched to see this movie? I sure as hell am now. I saw a commercial for it last night and it looks as though it could be quite good. I'd assumed that there was going to be one alien and one predator but it appears that there is actually an army of both doing battle with humans caught in the middle. It's a can't-miss premise and with any luck the filmmakers won't "miss".

1. Will they be stomping on miniature cities?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 11:07 AM by arwalden
That would be cool. (Remember Godzilla vs Mothra?)

3. Actually, I think...
...the action takes place in Antarctica or someplace like that. Not a lot to stomp on there. I think the humans will be standing in for the miniature cities.

4. Will It Be Present Day? Or Far Into The Future?
Pre-Ripley or post-Ripley?

Based on the location, it sounds like it's a story line that could be inspired by John Carpenter's "The Thing".

6. I think that I read somewhere...
...that it would be set in the present day.

9. No, I believe it's a prequel of sorts. (barely spoilerish)
"Bishop" from the Alien movies is in this one, only not as an android, but as the guy who invented them -- which means, he designed their look on himself.

Which means, on a straight time line, this would have to be a sort of prequel.

12. Thanks for clearing that up.
The whole Bishop thing was confusing me. I did recognize him from "Aliens" but had no idea what to make of it.

2. 5 predators, scores of aliens
Looks good, but we'll have to wait and see if the promise holds any actual content.

11. I was wondering
cause a ton of Predators would destroy how ever many aliens there were. Even with just five I don't know that it is a fair fight.

7. I've been waiting for this to be made since the aliens vs predator comics

Aliens and Predator (sorry Arnie bashers, but this movie still rocks to this day and I will never cease to watch it at least once a month) are among my top 5 fav movies.

The fact that Paul Anderson is directing gives me great hope that it will be cool, clever and true to its roots.

8. The trailer looks incredible.
I suspect that this is going to be a line-around-the-block movie the way "Aliens" was when it came out in the '80s.

10. Alien was such a good movie.
Shame it's come to this.

13. Come to what?
I assume that you don't like that it's been turned into a "franchise" of sorts and I understand that. The last couple of "Alien" movies were outright bad but I think that this one looks like a definite improvement. I'm hoping I'm right.

14. Franchises rarely get better.
Mixing it up with another, lesser franchise probably isn't going to help things much. This looks like another Freddy vs. Jason, or Van Helsing.

15. Yeah, so mix it up a little bit.

If the Law of Diminishing Returns applies (*cough*Alien Resurrection*cough*Predator 2*cough*), then by all means, inject some new life into it this way.

Considering the Freddy and Jason franchises were dead, I'd say they did good...box-office wise, anyway. I never saw it or Van Helsing. Most times I can smell turds from watching the trailer.

16. It SOUNDS like another...

...Freddy vs. Jason or Van Helsing. That's pretty much what I thought of it when I first heard about it. I'm going by the trailer. It LOOKS as though it could be quite good. I could be wrong but I'm just hoping to be pleasantly surprised--for once.

17. I didn't think the trailer looked that good.
Bunch of physically attractive wise-cracking scientists, or whatever, find a big Aztec pyramid in the Antarctic. Bunch of aliens running around in rubbery suits (sans all the suspense that made Alien and to a lesser extent predator good), a bunch of people screaming, machine guns firing, things blowing up, guys in rubber suits fighting. I see nothing there that we haven't seen a million times before.

Don't get me wrong, i hope it's a brilliant, entertaining movie and wins a bunch of Oscars. I'm just not counting on it. In fact, given similar movies that come before it, I'm expecting it to be absolutely horrible.
