My dad is dying and I'm probably going bankrupt, ask me anything
My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last Feb that is in-operable and is now with Hospice. My folks divorced when I was 6 and he remarried and had another daughter who died at 26. Some thing happened (I'm not even sure what) after she died and Dad and I lost track for 10 years.

I finally called just after the diagnosis. I don't think I'll be able to see him alive again. He is so weak and sick that they (he and my step mom) don't want any company and I am respecting their wishes..

To add to the stress, my little company that has supported hubby and I since we both lost our jobs in the year after 9/11, has gone from bad to worse. I have gone from 7.5 employees to 1 and my gross receipts are down 70%

I offer services to corporate clients, who keep closing the sites and moving them overseas. I just can't seem to add more sites fast enough to counter the offshore exodus.

This week has sucked, but I'm hanging in there, so Ask Me Anything! :smoke:

8. Hope that something positive happens in your life soon
Since it is obvious you are undergoing a very major transition.

Do you know QuickBooks? Only asking because that has been my saving grace in an uncertain economy. I've been able to get jobs at small businesses doing their books. Since one is a local MD and the other a pest control company, both with two employees, I don't think my job will be outsourced. Just a thought-hope it helps.

have you ever heard of the Dances of Universal Peace? If there's a Dance circle in your area, you might wish to check it out. Dancers are very open and very welcoming. You do simple circle dances honoring the world's spiritual traditions. No membership, no pressure to do anything, but doing the Dances can make you feel better.

30. Have you heard these jokes and if so and you are a blonde simply
make this slight change: She was so republican that
- she thought TuPac Shakur was a jewish holiday
- she sent me a fax with a stamp on it
- she thought a quarterback was a refund
- she tried to put M&M's in alphabetical order
- she thought Boyz II Men was a daycare center
- she thought Meow Mix was a record for cats
- under "education" on her job application, she put "Hooked On Phonics"
- she tried to drown a fish
- she tripped over a cordless phone
- she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice box because it said "concentrate"
- she put lipsick on her forehead because she wanted to make up her mind
- she got stabbed in a shoot-out
- she told me to meet her at the corner of "WALK" and "DON'T WALK"
- she got locked in a grocery store and starved to death
- if you gave her a penny for intelligence, you'd get change back
- they had to burn the school down to get her out of third grade
- she took a ruler to bed to see how long she slept
- at the bottom of the application where it says "sign here"... she put "Sagittarius"
- she asked for a price check at the Dollar Store
- it takes her two hours to watch 60 Minutes
- if she spoke her mind, she'd probably be speechless
- she studied for a blood test - and failed
- she thought she needed a token to get on Soul Train
- she sold the car for gas money
- when she saw the "NC-17" (under 17 not admitted), she went home and got 16 friends
- when she heard that 90% of all crimes occur around the home, she moved
- she thinks Taco Bell is where you pay your phone bill
- when she missed the 44 bus, she took the 22 bus twice instead

I can only send you wishes for better times. I can tell you that I've been through my share of really rotten times. It is true, things get better. I always try to view the really bad things that happen as learning experiences. I was amazed what I learned, and it made enduring them a little bit easier.

For every bad thing that happens ...there's something positive. Your job now...is to find it and understand it. That should be easy for you because you are so smart and in the accelerated class.

I am a parent that got that 4:00 AM phone call that is every parent's nightmare. (That was 4 years ago Wed.) Believe it or not...lots of good came from it and if you keep asking what good can come from your experience...you will find something too. Count on it!
Think positive!

50. we (hubby and I) have done that
the dad thing is just Karma i fear. We have always been apart at the worst times. I'm just gonna have to deal with it..

re the $$ thing, it actually has been good. Hubby likes his toys and retail therapy. He has finally decided that he would rather be debt free than anything else in the world. and that is great with me

I don't need much (live simply so others can simply live is my motto) and I'm glad my partner has "seen the light"

it has also be a bonding in our marriage. after 10 years we were just kinda rolling along and this has brought us much closer as we realize that as long as we have each other, all other troubles will pass

so in every dark cloud there is that silver lining ya know?

They were outsourcing, but have come across a lot of issues that is making it too expensive, so they are hiring in Pittsburgh, New Jersey and Boston.
If this is good for you, go to their web site and search out a real job. Not that having your own business is not a real job. I meant a real boring 9-6 job.

Good luck

64. I'm sorry, AZ. My father went pretty much the same way.
My mom had a stroke right before my father was diagnosed, and he died within weeks. All very unexpected, and we hadn't been getting along very well anyway.

I'm glad that you have the twelve step thing - so do I, and it is a huge help.

Look on the bright side - Shrub says the economy is rapidly improving! We'll all be rolling in the dough very soon.
