Remastered Pink Floyd The Final Cut
If there is anyone here who likes the music of Roger Waters, I highly recommend the newly released remaster of Pink Floyd The Final Cut. The sound quality blows away the previous CD version, and it includes a stunningly beautiful remaster of "When the Tigers Broke Free."

2. Wasn't this really a Roger Waters solo album?
Don't get me wrong. I love Roger Waters. I think he's an incredible poet with an amazing gift for beautiful and profound lyrics. But I can't deny that David Gilmour did the real heavy lifting when it came to the music and sound of Pink Floyd. In fact, I think Gilmour is truly one of the most shamefully underrated musicians and guitarists of all time.

I'm not trying to induce flames. I just have never understood why "The Final Cut" is considered a Pink Floyd album.

4. he was
It was Richard Wright that was asked to leave by Waters after The Wall

The Final Cut was mostly leftovers from The Wall sessions. May didn't care for it but I really liked it. It such a downer! I got to see Waters live twice on his last tour in 1999 and I hope he gets his new album out soon. It's only 3 years late now!

5. But didn't he just do a couple of contractual sessions...
and out the door he went? I know there were some holdovers from "The Wall" on "The Final Cut", but I'm still not sure I would call that album a Pink Floyd effort.

Gilmour, IIRC, was pretty much fed up with Waters after "The Wall". Which was too bad, because he really did some of his most amazing work on that album. The guitar solo on "Comfortably Numb" still just about brings me to tears, and I've heard it a million times.

6. solo album
Yeah, I think conceptually it is much more of a Waters album rather than a Floyd album. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Roger actually offered to make it a solo album since the Gilmour and Mason were so disgruntled with it, but they turned him down, wanting their share of $$$ from sales.

I think Roger is a genius, ranking with the greatest British poets of the 20th century. He's also an egomaniac. Gilmour is better at musical atmospherics and is one of the best guitarists ever, but he can't write lyrics at all or do some of the special sound-effects and meaningful touches that are so much a part of Waters' work. I have tremendous respect for both of them.
