1. Last Year I would have said "Higher", but...
...after being moved to tears by Symbolman's use of "Everyday People" in one of his excellent flash shows, I'm gonna say that one!

2. Wrote a jazz band arrangement of "Higher" in HS - it killed!
Always liked Sly & TFS.

That being said, I voted for "Thank you falletinme..." 'cause the guitar riff is one of the funkiest ever.

3. I Voted For Thank U, But
I always really liked "If You Want Me To Stay". So, i was tempted to hit Other. It's sort of a tie, for me.

7. Here's the lyrics
The first few protests I went to, I played this in my car driving there to help get me jazzed up. I hope that doesn't sound too corny.

Stand
In the end you'll still be you
One that's done all the things you set out to do
Stand
There's a cross for you to bear
Things to go through if you're going anywhere
Stand
For the things you know are right
It s the truth that the truth makes them so uptight
Stand
All the things you want are real
You have you to complete and there is no deal
Stand. stand, stand
Stand. stand, stand
Stand
You've been sitting much too long
There's a permanent crease in your right and wrong
Stand
There's a midget standing tall
And the giant beside him about to fall
Stand. stand, stand
Stand. stand, stand
Stand
They will try to make you crawl
And they know what you're saying makes sense and all
Stand
Don't you know that you are free
Well at least in your mind if you want to be

Everybody
Stand, stand, stand

16. This song still gives me goose bumps......
I just love the lyrics and the abandonment and exhuberance of the chorus "Stand, stand, stand!"

6. I like a lot of them... BUT
I think "Family Affair" would have to qualify for a rather high spot on my "Top 100 most obnoxious songs in rock history" list. That one guy singing who sounds like he's on a respirator with 40 pounds of mucus stuck in his throat makes me want to rip my hair out.

8. Africa Talks To You "The Asphalt Jungle"
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 10:47 AM by LoZoccolo
Though the entire album /There's a Riot Goin' On/ works well as a piece.

And I noticed there's no post-/Riot/ songs in the list! If you've listened to that 1970 greatest hits album they put out and listen to /Riot/ you'll be like "whoah, what happened!" That album was like my mental soundtrack during all the anti-war protests and stuff, that whole period where we were all angry at the admin and the media and all that.

Plus the original cover available outside the US is interesting:

on edit: Oh hey I didn't notice "Family Affair" was on there. Oops!
