Poll question: How Monogamous Are You?
How monogamous are you? (This is for those who are in a relationship with another person. Cheating on your own right hand does not count.)

35. Actually, I'm not sure it really is
at least not on the same scale as all the other ways. I'd lump having sex with a prostitute closer to masturbation than an affair, and I think we can all agree that masturbation isn't cheating.

7. "Cheat" implies deceit/violation of contract
Edited on Thu Aug-28-03 06:50 PM by Plaid Adder
If your contract says you can play around, then playing around doesn't really count as cheating.

As for the buffet...I say if you've found the food you love best, you can have a lot of fun experimenting with different recipies for it.

10. I've been the victim of cheating...it sucked on ice!
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 09:02 AM by GOPisEvil
I'd never want to cause that kind of pain to someone I love. Plus, I'm just not a cheater; my parents have been married for over 40 years, and I know with every fiber of my being that they've never cheated on each other. I should be so lucky to have what they have.

But, monogamy's easy when you're single and unattached. Yes, I am loyal to myself - but don't let my left hand find out what my right hand's been up to. :o

Spelling!

16. I cheated once
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 09:16 AM by StrongBad
I regretted it more than pretty much anything I have ever done in my life. Even if I had fallen out of love with the person and wanted out.

Cheating signifies something has gone awry with the relationship. If that something can't be fixed, time to move on.

But don't hurt the person by breaking whatever bond of trust you established. I have never been the victim of cheating but can only imagine how heartwrenching it must be.

On the other hand, if you and your partner have agreed to have an "open" relationship, there's nothing to discuss. I however could never be involved in that type of relationship.

26. This AM responder...

...has to chime in with Interrobang & Xithras. Monogamy doesn't work for me, and fortunately I have a pardner that feels the same way, so cheating doesn't enter into it.

I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but the truely monogamous seem to be rare breed. Every survey of sexual additudes and behaviors I've ever seen shows a lot more people proffessing a belief in monogamy, than are actually practising it.

That said, I think that if you and your pardner are monogamous and happy with that, if that's what works for you, more power to you. I hope it always stays that way for you.

30. Then Count Me As Rare
And, do you have data from these surveys? I'd like to see it and the conclusions of the researchers. My feeling is that it's not as rare as you state and would like to see data that corroborates that statement.

For me, it's total and absolute. I would never even CONSIDER cheating on my wife, let alone do it.

34. Actions are what are important
I have never cheated on my husband even though I have been tempted and have occaisionally fantasized about being with someone else. My husband has admitted to thinking about having sex with others too. We don't have sex with others though and I think that it might change our relationship if we had an open marriage. Actual cheating involves a decision. We all have lots of thoughts that we consider immoral or not smart ideas but that doesn't mean we do them.

40. Really should have used "faithful" instead of "monogamous"
because that's what I was really thinking of when I designed the poll. I figure if your partner knows about it and doesn't mind, it's not cheating...especially if she's gettin' something out of it.

Sorry for the semantic confusion,

The Plaid Adder

Maybe it really *is* a trans novel, and not a lesbian novel at all. That would explain a few things. But trans or lesbian, there's no getting around the fact that it's turgid, annoying, and full of martyr complexes.
