The "Buttwalk": cute idiosyncrasy or medical concern?
Every now and then, my cat Coleman will walk on his hind legs, sitting upright, with his butt dragging on the floor. My wife thinks it may be worms, I say it's just an idiosyncratic thing he does only on occasion. Which one of us may be right? Anybody else see this with their kitty?

See the vet, his anal glands are blocked and may need to be
lanced or removed. They can get infected.

It's easily corrected.

2. Animals do this when their butt itches.. might be worms..
a trip to the vet can rule it out :)

White carpets might be a no-no , as well..:)

3. Dogs do it to scratch an itchy anus
I'd mention it to your vet. Could be a digestive problem irritating his butt, or worms like your wife said. Or he could just be acting weird as cats do from time to time.

4. I agree with your wife.
I had a cat that also did that and worming her took care of it.

5. It's the anal glands
hard to scratch any other way . . .

I hear Cheney does the same thing sometimes. :-)

6. Thanks, folks
He's just about due for a checkup, so I'll ask. Like I said before, he doesn't do it often, so that's good. Oh, and I have an almond-colored carpet. Yikes!

7. When male dogs do this it is anal glands - and then they need to be
"expressed" - very foul smelling and messy. A vet will do it though they charge an outrageous fee and it is actually possible to do it yourself with rubber gloves. The glands are at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock. Stand clear and have a handfull of paper towels ready to catch the fluid. It's nasty!

I don't know if male cats have this problem as well. I would first suspect worms.
