I "submitted" a poll (not a stupid one) and it's not there.

Help! I went to Topics, Click on POLL, Filled it out and Submitted.
Does it take awhile for polls to appear?

1. No, this is probably what happened

If you open a new window while you're in the middle of posting something and go and do some certain other things, such as replying to another post, you lose the one you were working on before.

If you do this while posting regularly it gives you a warning message, but apparently it doesn't for polls. Redo your poll, and don't go around replying to other threads in another window while you type it out, and it should work.
