"Shopper" The Sea Lion Found Dead In St. Helena

A sea lion that made a habit of making its way inland by swimming up rivers has been shot. "Shopper" the sea lion was found dead yesterday in a St. Helena vineyard. A spokesman with the Marine Mammal Center says the animal was shot at least once in the head. The 286-pound male sea lion was rescued last month after swimming up the Petaluma River. After Shopper was released to a remote location in the Point Reyes National Seashore, it made its way up the Napa River.

This really makes me mad. This was such a great story last month and the SF Chronicle even did a story on it and there was a nice photo of him beside the shore at Pt. Reyes and now some BMF had to shoot the little guy.
