Literary: why do mystery movies tend to introduce the perpetrator early?
After watching "Minority Report" last night, I've been thinking that a lot of mystery movies enter the perpetrator fairly early in the piece. It usually works out pretty well, but I'm hoping some script writer or novelist DUer can clue me in to the mechanics. Are there more opportunities for character development? Greater opportunity for plot twists and betrayals?
