Ok, here I go, first post on DU ...
I know most everybody agrees that Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton are the best guitar players ever and so do I, but what about Angus from AC/DC, how does he rate?

6. OK, fair enough, what about Stevie Ray Vaughn?......
where does he rank? I said I pretty much was going after the obscure for a rank. I'm always looking out for the underdog and that might just get overlooked or forgotten, but 5th, 6th and 7th are important in a field of 50 best guitar players in the world for the last forty years, it does matter.

30. Pat Travers???
He wasn't even the best guitar player in his own band. I saw them live and Pat Thrall blew Travers off the stage.

Better technically, more clever in phrasing, and far more adventerous in his wild moments. Thrall is quite unsung.

24. Angus is way better than Page

I would rather listen to AC/DC than the most overplayed band of the century (zep).

3. Angus is great - though I'm not a big fan
And, if you listen to him, he is fairly intelligent. I saw some clips where he said the band was together forever no matter what, and the rest agreed. I like that solidarity.

19. TY, my point being that he was mediocre...
so let's hold secondary best to a higher standard. Let's find out and concur who exactly were the bestest guitar players in the whole wide world and who is 3rd, 4th and 5th of the very best in the whole wide world... frankly, I've been lurking here and other boards for too long and I have deemed you worthy to decide who comes in distant 4th and 5th.

25. I don't really listen to ACDC
But I think the best guitarist ever might just go to a nerdy looking guy from Austrailia named John Williams.

I just have no clue who Angus is. Don't give up on me though. I don't know who Jimmy Page is either. LOL I have heard Eric Clapton and appreciate his talent. Welome to DU. coalminersdaughter (not a country music fan. My dad is a retired miner.)

The ones you named are of course excellent, but I believe that Jimi Hendrix and Daune Allman are the two greatest guitarists to ever live.

29. AC/DC does a funny radio interview
I can't remember how long ago, or for which album, but they were all in the studio and the host asked "Doesn't it feel kind of funny to essentially release the same album 11 times?"

There was a moment of silence, then Angus piped up.

"We have 13 albums."

I laughed my ass off.
