Dominion Institute youth survey links political choices to music
TORONTO (CP) - The Liberals might think about playing a lot of Shania Twain and Alicia Keys on the campaign trial to lure young voters, if a pre-election survey by the Dominion Institute is correct.

The institute surveyed 500 young people aged 14 to 18 between March 23 and April 3, asking them their political choices as well as their musical preference. Full details of the poll will be released Thursday.

Half of the fans of Twain and Keys said they preferred the Liberals. Both these groups were overwhelmingly female.

Beyonce fans were also largely female and 39 per cent of them supported the Liberals.

In contrast, teens who preferred the rap music of Jay Z or the rock airs of Nickelback were largely male. While just over a third of them leaned Liberal, 15 per cent of the Nickelback group preferred the Conservatives.
