some light on why lollapalooza tickets weren't selling...
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 08:28 PM by ann_coulter_is_a_man
from mtv.com:

"Geiger said Lollapalooza's plight is indicative of a summer touring season on the slide.

"Lollapalooza is not alone in this," he said. "Everyone from the Dead to Dave Matthews to Norah Jones is suffering. There's not one explanation for this. It might be that ticket prices are too high, which doesn't account for Lollapalooza, because our tickets were priced between $15 and $25. Maybe it's the sundry add-ons that up the cost? Maybe gas prices are too high? Just like the record industry is suffering, the concert business is not exempt.

"After people get through this summer season," he added, "there's going to be a lot of fixing that needs to be done in the concert industry."

--------------------------

i paid $55 for mine that means between ticketmaster and the venue charges, it was a $30-40 markup. and who owns these venues or has exclusive contracts with these outdoor pavillions?

1. Its the cost of the tickets, of course.

Frigging insane markup. If they were truly 20 bucks, tons of people would go.

3. wel, it WAS going to be

Morrissey
Sonic Youth
PJ Harvey
Modest Mouse
Le Tigre
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Von Bondies
String Cheese Incident
Flaming Lips
Wilco
Gomez
Polyphonic Spree
Michael Franti and Spearhead

shit like ozzfest and it's nu-metal garbage can sustain a tour and the kiddie corpoate poppunk of warped tour does fine, but a bunch of critically acclaimed up-and-coming bands get together with some musical legends and no one buys tickets

americans have no fuckin taste

6. Looks like a pretty interesting line up
to me. Unfortunately, I don't enjoy going to these big events like I used to...

Too expensive (esp. with the parking fees, $4+ drinks, etc.), too hot, too many people...guess I'm gettin' old.

I'd rather go see one or to bands in a club, and I rarely do that either anymore. I have to get up early for work these days.

I hate smoke too.

Am I a drag or what?B-)

7. I was going to go...
For Morrissey and the Pixies and Modest Mouse, but I just paid $75 for Cure tickets in August, and I can't possibly afford both.

Sorry, Moz, maybe you'll come around again some time soon.

11. Le Tigre....
Hmmmm....I have some bad feelings towards them right now. At Coachella, their screaming interrupted the Cure concert. I'll have to give them a listen, but last month, I wanted to personally murder all of them.

Maybe I'm just getting too worked up about the Cure, though.

13. I have been meaning to check them out...
despite my Coachella-based animosity. I'll give them a listen.
